Keanu Reeves, 58, has shed some light on his blossoming romance with painter girlfriend Alexandra Grant, 49.
When asked to name his “last moment of bliss,” he told People, “A few days ago with my sweetheart. We were in bed. We were connected.’
The John Wick star gushed: “We smiled and laughed and giggled. To feel good. It was just really nice to be together.’
Alexandra and Keanu met at a dinner party in 2009 and worked together on two art books before officially walking the red carpet in 2019.
However, in recent years they have tended to maintain their privacy and rarely discuss details of their relationship in public.
Alexandra found herself on the business end of an internet frenzy while walking the red carpet with Keanu at the LACMA Art + Film Gala in early November 2019.
“I think every single person I knew called me in the first week of November and it’s fascinating,” she told British Vogue a few months later.
When asked about the prospect of marriage in 2020, she said, “Love on all levels is deeply important to my identity. How’s that to avoid the question?’
She added: “I don’t think isolation is the way to go. There is a period of isolation that I go through as a painter, but I really appreciate the experience of being in relationships.’
When they officially walked the red carpet, they had been friends for about a decade and it was reported that Keanu wanted to go public with the romance.
They first collaborated on Keanu’s book Ode To Happiness in 2011, with Alexandra providing the illustrations. The project was her first book as an artist and his first as a writer.
They collaborated again on the actor’s 2016 book Shadow, for which Alexandra again contributed the artwork.
She is his first known girlfriend since Jennifer Syme, who died in a car accident in 2001, less than four months after she and Keanu’s stillborn baby was born.
In 2010, a photo surfaced of the Matrix star sitting dejectedly on a park bench, leading to the wildly viral “Sad Keanu” meme.
When the meme surfaced, there was much speculation that his facial expression was linked to the harrowing losses he had endured over the past decade.
However, in a 2021 interview on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Keanu said he actually looked lost in the picture because he was hungry.
“Man, I’m eating a sandwich!” said the movie star about the picture. ‘I thought. I had a lot going on. I was hungry.’
