Kim Kardashian’s Latest ‘Makeup-Free’ Selfie Is Sparking a Debate About Filters
Kim Kardashian, Queen of Contouring, is being praised for her latest ‘unfiltered selfie’. Let us talk about it.
On March 6, the 42-year-old reality TV star shared a makeup-free selfie straight from the dentist’s chair, pink disposable bibs and all. Fans of the Skims founder were quick to flood her comments with the usual jokes, admiration, and emojis, but many also began squabbling over her use of filters — or lack thereof.
“Yes, an unfiltered selfie!!!” One fan reacted to the picture, while another wrote, “Nice to see Kim’s skin without makeup or filters.”
However, many were quick to suggest that even a more natural-looking Kardashian selfie is likely to be tweaked before being added to the “gram.” “Look!!! Stop all these haters she is unfiltered, unedited and still the most beautiful ever,” one fan wrote. Another user directly responded to this comment, writing, “I love Kim and she’s beautiful but this is still being worked on.”
Here are two things that are true:

Women deserve to post a selfie without being bombarded with comments and questions about filters, fillers, botox and natural signs of aging.

There’s nothing wrong with using filters, fillers and/or botox, nor is there anything wrong with not using them.
Here’s one more thing that’s true: Kim Kardashian and her family have directly contributed to our culture’s distorted perspectives on body image and aging, while denying the use of all of the above.
Back in September 2022, Kardashian denied ever growing a single gray hair, although there is actual footage of her stylist asking permission to pluck one from her skull. In August 2022 she told Beckon that her face has never been treated with anything other than “a little botox.” She claimed she had never had it eyelash extensions.
“NO. I’ve never had eyelash extensions,” she swore. “I’ve never done anything. I put a drop of mascara on today. I’ve never had my cheeks filled in. I’ve never had my lips filled in.” All of this comes from the same woman who then said she would probably “eat poop” if someone told her it made her look younger.
So what’s my point? Filter or not, Kim Kardashian is a beautiful woman.
