Latest update on Dalvin Cook and NY Jets rumors

Rumors about Dalvin Cook continue to dominate the slow July news cycle for the NY Jets and, quite frankly, the entire AFC East. The latest update suggests Cook is in no rush to sign a deal.

NFL Network’s Jeff Darlington reported this weekend that Cook has received an official offer from the Miami Dolphins but is reluctant to accept it just yet. The report says Cook is keeping his options open and hoping for a better deal.

Cook is reportedly still interested in the possibility of signing with the Dolphins, but he’s not ready to sign at this time. The four-time Pro Bowler is hoping for a better offer, either from the Dolphins or another team.

Maybe that other team could be based in the AFC East. The Jets and the New England Patriots have both been linked to rumors surrounding Cook, and one can’t rule out the possibility that he might choose to sign with his brother’s team in Buffalo.

Cook has received an official offer but isn’t too keen on it.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported last week that the Jets were “gaining momentum” to sign Cook this summer. There are many in the NFL who believe Cook will eventually sign with the Jets.

However, the Dolphins and Patriots remain keen to sign the longtime Minnesota Vikings running back. The Dolphins are the only team that has reportedly offered Cook a contract at the time of writing.

The 27-year-old has an active market, though it’s unclear how much teams will be willing to pay for a running back given he has nearly 1,300 rushing attempts in his career in the NFL. Cook’s sharp drop in performance last season certainly doesn’t help him either.

Still, Cook has remained one of the most prolific running backs in recent years. Cook has rushed for 1,100 yards in each of the past four seasons and has made the Pro Bowl every year.

The Jets are looking for running back depth, with Breece Hall still rehabilitating an ACL tear he sustained last season. Hall is optimistic he’ll be ready for Week 1, but the Jets would like to cover him.

Cook is the hottest free agent running back out there, which is probably one of the reasons he’s in no rush to sign a deal. By his own admission, at least, he wants to sign up with a team that will give him a chance to win a Super Bowl.

The Jets are offering him that opportunity, but so are the Bills and possibly the Dolphins too. This is a situation to watch as we get closer to the start of training camp this month.
