Jill Heseltine, Birmingham 2022 Venue General Manager for Victoria Park said: “The Lawn Bowls and Para Lawn Bowls event was a fantastic nine day competition showcasing Leamington and Victoria Park in all their glory.

“The greens looked fantastic and true to their name they were exceptionally green despite having been bathed in sunshine for the past three weeks or more.

“The athletes were cheered on by a very partisan and knowledgeable spectator, some 17,000 in all, who came to enjoy the hard-fought competition, spirit and atmosphere of the Commonwealth or ‘Friendly’ games.

“Thank you to the people of Leamington and Warwick for making us feel very welcome.”

As well as the bocce ball competitions, the district was a proud host of the men’s and women’s road cycling races on August 7th, where an estimated 15,000 spectators from around the world lined the streets of Warwick and provided a carnival atmosphere throughout the day.

For those unable to get tickets or unable to travel to the venues in Birmingham, the festival sites at the Pump Room Gardens and Market Square in Warwick – organized by Warwick District and Warwickshire County Council – were a huge hit with local families enjoying too a series of activities and thousands gathered to see the big screen, including Whitnash boxer Lewis Williams’ gold medal fight.

Warwick District Council Chairman Andrew Day said: “The beaming faces of our visitors as they attended the events we have hosted across the Warwick District reflect not only the years of preparation but also the warm welcome by Hundreds of wonderful local volunteers.

“The riveting Lawn Bowls and Para Lawn Bowls competitions at Victoria Park in Leamington were given a fitting finale with the Cycling Road Races in Warwick.

“It has been a joyous time to join our guests in wholeheartedly celebrating these friendly games and sharing them with all 54 nations visiting our extraordinary and beautiful corner of the Commonwealth.”
