Learn how to run VR flight sims and win a Pimax 8k headset
As with most things in life, PC gaming is a wonderful range of interests and hobbies. Among the most intense of these may be the simulation crowd, always looking to emulate real-world experiences as closely as possible on PC hardware. Flight simulators, like the ever-popular Microsoft Flight Simulator (opens in new tab) are some of the most impressive out there, complete with awesome rigs with realistic control configurations like the officially Boeing-licensed Thrustmaster TCA Yoke Pack (opens in new tab).
Combining these impressive setups with VR is often the next step for many looking to add a little more realism to their flights of fancy. The Flight Simulator Association states that 15% of Simmers are incorporating VR into their flight experience as of December last year. But it’s also a lot of kit to get used to and understand. Luckily, the community is rich and willing to help when it comes to flight sims and enthusiasts looking for the best experiences.
To help with this, the Flight Simulator Association and Pimax, makers of some of the craziest VR headsets we’ve ever seen, are hosting a webinar to get people excited about simming in VR. It will be live on October 27th at 21:30 – 22:30 UTC where prizes and tons of information will be offered.
The seminar promises not only to give viewers an insight into a home VR setup, but also to provide tips for assistance. This includes what to expect from a VR experience, how to deal with common issues like motion sickness, what hardware you need, and a range of tips and tricks from experts who’ve done it all before. Then you can commit to the new Microsoft Flight Sim Top Gun (opens in new tab) that teaches you to be a real loner.
Those interested can register for the seminar (opens in new tab) by creating an account with the Flight Simulator Association, or you can just watch it here on YouTube when it goes live. If you have an FSA account you can ask questions during the show. So if you are looking for answers, this might be your best bet. The association will also hold a FlightSimExpo (opens in new tab) next year June 23-25 in Houston, Texas for personal questions.
For those who want to get their hands on a brand new headset, Pimax offers a discount code for its shop (opens in new tab) this will be announced during the event. Or better yet, you could potentially win a Pimax 8KX or Pimax Crystal headset just for entering. The Pimax 8KX is a 4k headset with the crazy 200-degree field of view that Pimax is known for. It normally costs $1,335, but they’re still on sale due to the Pimax birthday celebrations (opens in new tab). The Pimax Crystal, on the other hand, is one of the latest headsets to be released for the brand, making it an even better price.
But again, these headsets aren’t for the faint of heart and require some other intense kit, not to mention tracking devices. However, with their excellent resolution and visual fidelity, these would undoubtedly be amazing headsets, especially for a flight simulator experience. Getting a full field of view while flying would be simply stunning with one of these devices, although it takes mean machinery to power it. Nevertheless, the seminar offered should go through all the requirements in detail, and that is exactly what it is intended for.
If flight sims, VR, or a combination of both are your thing, this definitely feels like a seminar not to be missed. Whether you are looking for a serious experience or want to be a badass guy flying a halo pelican in MS Flight Sim. Until then, why not check out some of our favorite flight sims on PC?
