Light Weight Gives Adios A Big Chance Today

Trainer Frankie Lor is confident Adios can capitalize on his featherweight advantage when he competes in Sha Tin’s red-hot Class 2 Tung Wan Handicap at Sha Tin’s eight-race all-dirt game today.

Adios moves up the class at 115lb against proven dirt course performers Campione (131lb), Ka Ying Master (127lb) and Super Win Dragon (120lb), while Computer Patch (135lb), Nervous Witness ( 134 lb) and Astrologer (126 lb) also strengthen the 12-runner final.

“We’re light weight this time, Karis (Teetan) is up – Karis is always good on the dirt and the pace should be fast, which suits us,” said Lor.

Adios was passed by Adefill on his dirt debut in Class 3 at the last start on March 5th. Adefill has been a revelation this season since transitioning from the surface to the dirt with three wins from three starts.

Adios has been trying to make it all day, but Lor doesn’t plan on trying again.

“Last time he was leading alone, for me it’s better if he has cover so we’ll know more after this race,” Lor said. “Typically when you get into that class and the other horses are pretty strong, the light weight should help my horse.”

Nervous Witness makes his dirt debut – he also has an entry for the Gr2 Sprint Cup (1200m) on April 9th in Sha Tin. Computer Patch does the same as Super Win Dragon searches the surface for his fourth win of the season.

Adios will leave gate eight in tomorrow night’s HK$2.64 million final.

“The last time he ran well on the dirt I checked the program and this is one race I want to see him in because he’s a light weight,” Lor said.

One race earlier, Lor saddled Youthful Deal in Class 3 Tong Fuk Handicap (1200m).

“Last time he was a little disappointing on the grass so here we are on the dirt again and he won once on the dirt. A little problem is the draw – barrier 11,” Lor said.

The youthful Deal is a one-time winner from eight starts and he is yet to finish outside the top-3 in three runs on dirt.

“I hope he can win again in the dirt. I think both surfaces are still okay, but you can see his victory looked better on the clay, but I think the grass is still okay,” said Lor.

Champion rider Zac Purton jumps off barrier 11 with an assigned 120lb.

Today’s eight-race all-dirt tournament at Sha Tin starts at 1:15 p.m. with the class 5 Hap Mun Bay handicap (1200m).

Your entry into the Hollywoodbets Punters’ Challenge must be at least 5 minutes prior to the first.
