LISTEN: Luke Combs Counts His Blessings In Latest Release, ‘5 Leaf Clover’
The country music superstar reflects on how this lucky streak landed in his hands.
Luke Combs has given another look at his upcoming album with the release of his new song ‘5 Leaf Clover’, fittingly tied to the happy holiday of St Patrick’s Day.
On Friday (March 17th) fans finally got to experience the full version of the new song written by Combs Jessie Alexander and Chase McGill. The country superstar and reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year has been teasing the thoughtful tune of “5 Leaf Clover” on social media and live in concert for some time. This has given him enormous anticipation for the release.
The song quickly became a fan favorite
In the new tune, Combs pushes the boundaries of his stunning vocals as he reflects on all the happiness he’s experienced lately. For him, that success isn’t measured by how much money he makes or how much fame he gets, but considers himself lucky when he has “a fridge full of cold beers” and people who “have a few good years left.” .”
“A while back my buddy Newdy and I were looking for four-leaf clovers in the clover patch at my house. Eventually I found one, but shortly after that it found a 5-leaf clover and I was like, ‘Man, how lucky do you have to be to find a 5-leaf clover?’ I didn’t think much about it at the time, but wrote that on my phone as the title,” he said of the moment that would eventually inspire his new track.
“A few weeks later I was writing with Jessi Alexander and Chase McGill and it came up. It still wasn’t really something that came to mind spontaneously, but I shared the idea and the guitar melody with them and they loved it. We ended up writing the song that day,” Combs continued. “Eventually I started playing it at shows and posting a video of the song and y’all were quick to let me know it was one I needed to record; That’s why I’m so excited for you to finally hear it!”
While he’s grateful for all that life has brought him, Combs humbly admits he can’t figure out why he deserves all that he’s been given.
“I know I’m a lucky man / But I’m not sure why I am / ‘Cause it’s not what anyone deserves / The world in the palm of your hand,” he delivers during the chorus. “I got on my knees as grateful as I could / But there’s one thing I can’t get over / What’s a guy like me like who’s done with three / with five-leaf clover?”

Reflecting on the album, Combs said, “This album is about the stage of life I’m in right now. One that I’m sure many of us are in, have been through, or will be through. It’s about growing up, loving where life is now but at the same time missing how it used to be, continuing to fall in love with the person you love and loving them no matter what, in the moment to live and still wondering how much time you have left, family, friends, being thankful and leaving a legacy. I and so many others put their heart and soul into this album and I hope you love it as much as we do.”
The ‘What You See Is What You Get’ singer has already revealed the track listing for the forthcoming release, which reveals he co-wrote 15 of the 18 tracks.
