Scott set for Premier League switch

The Telegraph say that Bristol City’s Alex Scott is in advanced talks to complete a £25m move to Bournemouth, who have hijacked the transfer from Wolves.

The Reds were believed to be watching the Championship’s Young Player of the Year earlier in 2023.

Midfield message received

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has suggested Liverpool won’t win anything this season if they fail to solve ‘a big problem’ with their midfield.

With under two weeks to go until the start of the season, the Reds currently have no recognised holding midfielders. Nicol is not convinced any of the current options – nor Romeo Lavia – can fill such a role if his former club are to suceed this year.

Speaking on ESPN FC, he said: “If Liverpool want to be pushing anybody for the Premier League title or the Champions League or any of the big prizes, they need somebody who is going to be playing now and who’s going to do the job.

“They can’t wait on a [Romeo] Lavia getting better or hoping that Curtis Jones can fill in. That doesn’t get you Premier League titles or Champions League titles. It’s a big problem right now.”

Sofyan Amrabat U-turn

Sofyan Amrabat may yet complete a major turnaround and stay at Fiorentina.

The midfielder that impressed at last year’s World Cup, earning himself links to a Premier League switch in the process.

Liverpool were one of the clubs mentioned at times, although this was shut down by Corriere Della Sera last week as they stated Manchester United was Amrabat’s preference.

However the Moroccan has now cast doubts over a move, admitting ‘he doesn’t know if he is leaving’ this summer, as per the Mail Online’s report.

Romeo Lavia and Andre Trindade update

The latest from Melissa Reddy this morning is that dialogue remains open between Liverpool and Southampton over Romeo Lavia. The player ‘wants the move’ but a fee still needs to be settled upon.

Meanwhile the Reds are also in talks with Fluminese for Andre Trindade.

Jurgen Klopp discusses Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane’s first and only season at Bayern Munich may not have gone how many expected.

Just a few months ago when Liverpool announced a friendly with the German champions, it seemed like the perfect time for a reunion with the Senegalese forward, although that won’t be possible as he has now completed a switch to Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia.

Talking about this in his press conference yesterday, via iMiaSanMia, Jurgen Klopp said: “I don’t know what went wrong, to be honest. I think Sadio left us on a high, in really good shape, world-class player, no shadow of a doubt. To fulfil your full potential I think everything has to fall in place pretty much.”

Aurelien Tchouameni asking price

The Reds have been handed a boost should they still have eyes on Real Madrid man Aurelien Tchouameni.

Via El Nacional, Los Blancos face the problem of having to move some squad members on so that they can afford to bring Kylian Mbappe to the club.

They write that even if Tchouameni ‘continues to enter Carlo Ancelotti’s plans, he is a completely dispensable piece’, so would look to recoup no less than the £80m fee that they paid AS Monaco last summer.

Romeo Lavia and Andre latest as Liverpool midfield search takes new twist

Liverpool have seen a second bid for Romeo Lavia rejected – and have initiated contact with Fluminese over defensive midfielder Andre as they extend their search for engine room reinforcements.

An improved package of around £41million for Belgium international midfielder Romeo Lavia was offered to Southampton.

But it is understood that has been turned down. It remains to be seen if the South Coast club’s continued hardball stance means Liverpool have no option but to meet the full £50m asking price in order to sign the 19-year-old.

Lavia had emerged as Liverpool’s next major target this summer as they look to address a lack of defensive midfield options following the surprise departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi Arabia.

The Reds saw an opening offer of an initial £34m plus £4m in add-ons rejected by Southampton last week and have since been pondering their next move.

And while it is believed the player has expressed a desire to join Jurgen Klopp’s squad, the Saints are reluctant to compromise on what they believe is an accurate valuation of a player they bought last season from Manchester City for an initial £12m.
