Schmadtke “eyes” Kone

Liverpool sporting director Jörg Schmadtke has reportedly had his eye on Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone.

German journalist Christian Falk tells Caughtoffside: “Jörg Schmadtke made it clear that it will not happen between Liverpool and Micky van de Ven.”

“At Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp says what he wants on the market and Schmadkte makes plans from that.

“We’ve talked about Manu Kone before, for example. He sustained a knee injury at the European Under-21 Championship so it will be some time yet as he cannot pass medical tests at the moment. So that could be a topic that will be of interest to English clubs like Liverpool.

“Schmadtke keeps an eye on him. So those are things in the background that Schmadtke is currently doing.”

Barcelona ‘considering Thiago move’

According to a report from Spain, Barcelona are considering a surprise move of re-signing Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta hinted at Xavi’s desire to sign a midfielder in a recent interview with Mundo Deportivo. He said: “Xavi says we’re going to the Champions League and that if we strengthen the team with some reinforcements it’ll almost become a must.”

The report claims the 24-year-old Liverpool goalkeeper wants to play football regularly and is worth around £20million. The Republic of Ireland international has made just 21 appearances for the Reds senior team.

Liverpool’s stance on Jordan Henderson’s future as the club prepare for Saudi Arabia’s bid

Liverpool are still awaiting an official statement for Jordan Henderson as speculation over the captain’s future intensifies.

The Reds star is mulling an offer from Saudi pro-league club Al Ettifaq, who are now mentored by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, and reports Wednesday night suggest Henderson is now leaning towards a shock move to the Middle East .

Despite claims the England international’s future could be settled before Jurgen Klopp’s side fly to Germany for a pre-training camp in the Black Forest on Saturday, ECHO understand Liverpool have not yet been contacted by any club in Saudi Arabia about their captain from Thursday morning.

And until an offer arrives for their longtime captain, the Reds are planning life with Henderson in their ranks. There is no interest within the club in losing a player of Henderson’s importance ahead of a crucial season.
