What you should know
This Saturday, the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks hope to patch the holes in a defense that has allowed an average of 36.8 points per contest. Louisiana-Monroe and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will go head-to-head in a Sun Belt bout Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET at JPS Field at James L. Malone Stadium. Coastal Carolina will stumble in after a win while the Warhawks will stumble in after a loss.
Last week’s game between Louisiana-Monroe and the Arkansas State Red Wolves wasn’t a total smash, but when Louisiana-Monroe fell on the road 45-28, it was damn close to turning into one. The losing side was bolstered by QB Chandler Rogers, who passed on 21 tries for two TDs and 155 yards and added a rush for one TD and 56 yards. Rogers’ 58-yard touchdown toss against WR Alred Luke in the first quarter provided one of the most memorable moments of the night.
Meanwhile, Coastal Carolina and the Georgia Southern Eagles were 7-7 at halftime last week, but the Chanticleers rallied to a 34-30 win in the second half. Coastal Carolina QB Grayson McCall threw it when he passed for three TDs and 335 yards on 34 tries and an additional rush for one TD and 34 yards. Topping the highlight reel was McCall’s 61-yard TD bombshell on WR Jared Brown in the fourth quarter.
The Warhawks are the clear underdogs, so they’re hoping it’s the size of the fight that will dictate it. Those burned by picking them against the spread last week should bear in mind that the roster has yet to drop consecutive games against the spread this season.
