Lucid finally adds Apple CarPlay standard in latest OTA update

Lucid Motors is about to deliver all four original trims on its flagship Air sedan that were promised when the ultra-long-range EV made its debut a few years ago. We’ve had the chance to experience several of these models inside and out, but were left wondering when the promised addition of Apple CarPlay would arrive. Today Lucid finally confirmed that CarPlay will now be a standard feature.

So far we’ve seen Lucid’s Dream Edition Air sedan, the Grand Touring Performance and most recently the Touring. Nobody disappointed. While the cheapest Air Pure sedans are next making their way to reservation holders, we’re waiting for that opportunity to drive…well, that and of course the three-engine Sapphire.

As we’ve shared before, there’s a lot to admire in the Lucid Air. From its 500+ mile range to its ultra-efficient propulsion and proprietary Wunderbox charging system, many of the components inside the Lucid Air are simply marvelous. All in a luxury sedan peppered with premium design details – new features that I personally notice every time I get behind the wheel, regardless of trim level.

Up to this point, Lucid’s own UX has been more than adequate and has gotten better over time as the American EV automaker worked out many of the early software bugs over the air. But sometimes…often it’s just easier to plug in your own smartphone and use Apple CarPlay…even in a Lucid Air.

The ability to access your iPhone’s apps from a vehicle’s head unit has really stood the test of time over the years as we become more familiar with our phones and their software, whether it’s easier access to Google Maps or your latest Taylor Swift playlist on Spotify.

When I test EVs, I always use the EV’s own system to at least try it out, but I almost always end up using Apple Carplay (ideally wireless) whenever possible, even if it’s a $100,000 EV acts. However, to date, the Apple Carplay usability has not been available in the Lucid Air. This waiting is now over.

Lucid announced the launch of CarPlay integration as a standard feature in the tweet seen above. According to the automaker, its latest OTA update will give current Lucid Air owners access to Apple CarPlay features and open a new door to easily accessible apps right from the EV’s own class cockpit touchscreen.

According to Lucid, the latest software update will roll out to its electric vehicles over the next week and will be implemented in Air sedans rolling off assembly lines in the future. Keep an eye out for this update and enjoy!
