Madeleine McCann latest: Family of woman claiming to be missing girl break silence
The young woman’s family, who have made headlines in recent weeks for her claim that she is Madeleine McCann, have opened up and denied that her daughter is the missing girl.
Julia Wendell, a 21-year-old woman from Poland, recently went viral after posting an Instagram post claiming she was the missing girl who disappeared from Portugal in 2007.
Julia said that “a few months ago” she began to wonder if she was the four-year-old who disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz 16 years ago after hearing “something” about her grandma.

She has also claimed to have body marks proving she is McCann, explaining that she has a freckle on her leg in the same place as Madeleine and a mark in her eye. She has also claimed that she resembles Kate and Gerry McCann.
This week, however, Francisco Marco, a private investigator who originally worked on the Madeleine case, performed a biometric analysis that completely ruled out the possibility that she is Madeleine.
Now Julia’s family has opened up to refute further claims that their daughter is Madeleine.
“We would like to comment on Julia’s case, which has spread the internet and media in many countries over the past few days,” the statement said.
“For us as a family, it goes without saying that Julia is our daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin and step-niece.
“We have memories, we have pictures. Julia also has these photos, because she took them with her from her parents’ house with the birth certificate and numerous hospital discharges.
“We always tried to understand all the situations that happened with Julia. Numerous therapies, medication, psychologists and psychiatrists – everything was guaranteed for Julia. She wasn’t left alone.
“We saw everything and tried to prevent it, to explain it, we asked them to stop it. We always tried to help her back on her feet.
“Julia once wanted to be a singer, model. She always wanted to be popular. What happens now, she has a million followers. We fear Julia will bear the inevitable. The internet won’t forget it and it’s obvious that Julia isn’t Maddie.
“We are shocked by this current situation. The family of Julia W.”
