Manchester United sporting director John Murtough looks speed up possible move for Adrien Rabiot – 101 Great Goals
Questions have been put to Manchester United this summer as the English giants continue to falter in their attempt to kickstart another rebuild under the new leadership regime of Dutchman Erik ten Hag.
The Red Devils landed on the wrong foot against Brighton at Old Trafford last weekend with a 2-1 defeat in Ten Hag’s managerial debut in the Premier League, tackling problems that linger despite his arrival at the club , particularly the way United didn’t do what they needed to do in the transfer window this summer.
The failure to effectively replace Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matić has already bitten the club and drawn justified criticism as they insist on stubbornly holding on to Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, with whom they may only now have given up on the idea of acquiring the Netherlands international to reunite his former boss.
Luckily for United fans, the club appear to be trying to make significant progress on a move for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot after the club’s director of football John Murtough flew to Turin to try and finalize negotiations between the club and speeding up the 27-year-old The France international’s agent – his mother – according to Goal’s Romeo Agresti.
United continue to push for a move for the former Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate, who has just a year left on his contract with The Old Lady and has already received clearance to leave the Allianz Arena this summer.
Whilst questions may arise as to whether Rabiot is the right player profile to be included in United’s midfield this summer, the reality remains that the Premier League’s record-breaking winners need reinforcements as soon as possible to avoid further dependence on a midfielder -Duopoly of Scott McTominay and avoid Fred.
With Marcus Rashford now being linked with serious interest from PSG after negotiations between the club and the player have already begun, there are more questions than answers at Old Trafford this summer after a promising start to the window in which Lisandro Martínez, Tyrell Malacia, and Christian Eriksen all completed.
Further midfield ties with Lazio star Sergej Milinković-Savić could boost fan base confidence after United have been interested in the Serbia international for a number of years, who could give the team a bigger – and more talented – profile than Rabiot can perhaps provide .
With just weeks left and the first team under Ten Hag in dire need of a reshuffle, many are hoping it will be a busy final push into September when United are expected to make progress in their quest for Champions League spots this season.
