Marcus Rashford equals Mohamed Salah’s superb record with latest Premier League award
The Manchester United star has been named Premier League Player of the Month for the third time this season
Marcus Rashford is only the second player to be named Premier League Player of the Month three times in the same season, matching a record set by Mohamed Salah in 2017-18.
The Manchester United striker scored five goals in four Premier League games in February – in a month he also scored as United won the Carabao Cup final at Wembley and beat Barcelona in the Europa League – and added his Awards added in September and January.
Rashford got the better of Leicester’s Kelechi Iheanacho, Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno and winger Manor Solomon, Tottenham right-back Emerson Royal and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.
He is also the first player to win the award in consecutive months since Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan won it in January and February 2021, and the ninth overall to have done so.
Rashford, who was also named Manchester United’s Player of the Month, tweeted: “Over the moon to win MU & PL Player of the Month again.
“I couldn’t have done it without the other guys and the staff. Setbacks will happen but as long as we stay focused and together we will always see the light at the end of the tunnel!”
On being voted United’s player of the month, he added: “It’s always good to be in the conversation, of course.
“To be awarded Player of the Month I feel, especially in the last three months, that you could give it to anyone.
“Each of the people who were elected deserved to win it. Of course it makes me very proud that I made it three times.
“All the players who were ready for it, even some of those who weren’t, deserved it. It shows that we can improve as a team and hopefully continue.”
When asked about his favorite moment of the month, he said: “Probably the Nou Camp.
“The last time I played away there, I felt like there were chances in the game, but I just didn’t take any of the chances. We didn’t create enough chances that I thought the game had.
“They beat us 3-0 that night and this time I thought about going back there and making sure we create chances and we try to convert them.”
Liverpool star Salah won the Premier League award three times – in November 2017 and in February and March 2018 – during his outstanding first season with the Reds when he scored 44 goals in all competitions and a new Premier League record of 38 games with 32 goals set up.
The win is the fourth of Rashford’s career and puts him level with Salah and three fewer than joint record holders Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane, who can boast seven.
