Matt Brown reacts to latest Conor McGregor allegations: ‘Why are you even in this situation where it’s a possibility?’
Conor McGregor is back in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after he was accused of sexual assault after appearing at a Miami Heat game during the NBA Finals.
No charges have been filed against McGregor at this time and his lawyers have vehemently denied the allegations. They called a letter of demand sent by the prosecutor’s attorney, calling for a settlement rather than litigation, to be nothing more than “annihilation.”
McGregor has had to deal with numerous allegations of sexual harassment in recent years, although he has not yet been formally charged. UFC veteran Matt Brown still wonders why the former champion keeps getting in trouble.
“My big question: is Conor putting himself in a position where people have the ability to make allegations like this?” Brown said of McGregor on the latest episode of The fighter against the writer. “I don’t think I’m the type to dictate how someone should live their life, but if I were him I’d hold back.
“If someone is making these allegations, at least that means there are people nearby who had the opportunity to make these allegations. At least in the same room he was talking to or hanging out with or something. It has to be a minimum.
“If he’s not around these women, they can’t make these allegations. But if they’re even around, then that potential is there [exists], especially when he’s partying or whatever he’s doing, being a wild man or whatever. Now you have the potential for those allegations.”
Brown obviously can’t form a judgment on what may or may not have happened to McGregor in Miami, but he is concerned that these allegations continue to mount.
Since 2018, McGregor has been arrested at least twice and also charged with assault after he punched a man in a bar in Dublin, Ireland. He is said to have attacked an Italian musician who filed a complaint against him in Rome.
“I have no idea if he did or not, nobody here is blaming or blaming anyone but the fact that you’re even in a situation where they have the potential to be [make those claims], someone isn’t advising you properly,” Brown said of McGregor. “Someone doesn’t support you. Someone isn’t telling you the right things to do.
“If I were to advise him, which I don’t and never would – I would advise him to fight me if I saw anything in his face – but if I did, I would say stay out of those situations out.” What do you do with other women anyway? Why do they even get a chance to say something like that? We can’t say that often enough. Why are you even in this situation where this is possible?”
Brown only stated in May that he doubts McGregor would actually return to the UFC and fight again. As of now, McGregor hasn’t officially booked his next fight, although a showdown against Michael Chandler was expected after they faced off as trainers The ultimate fighter 31.
In light of these latest allegations, McGregor is once again embroiled in controversy with no clear indication of when he might compete.
Additionally, Brown questions how committed McGregor remains to the sport, especially when he’s partying, rather than putting in the hours needed to prepare for his comeback.
“Even if he sort of fights again, which again I don’t trust him, I’m 80-20 that he’ll never fight again, but even if he does we have a good idea of the lifestyle he lives,” he said Brown . “He’s not going to come in there and get dirty again. He’s not going to do this hardcore underground training where he gets banged every day and he’s working his way out of bad positions. I just don’t see that.
“We could be wrong. We honestly have no idea, but I don’t see it. We can only go by what we see in the news and media and I don’t think anyone would disagree with that. We don’t see it at all.”
If Brown has any doubts about McGregor’s future, the Irish star’s love of the limelight assured him of a return. That alone could bring him back, but other than that, Brown is left wondering if the MMA world last saw McGregor in the UFC.
“I have a hard time believing that he’s just going to go away,” Brown said. “He will always be in the news. He loves being in the news. I think he loves it when his name gets out. Whether he actually comes back and fights is another story entirely.”
