Mets draft picks 2023: When does New York pick? Full list of MLB Draft selections
The Big Apple brings great expectations—and sometimes great disappointments.
Up to this point in the 2023 season, the Mets have been arguably MLB’s biggest disappointment. They were expected to compete in the World Series, but in the NL East and Wildcard races they are closer to last place than first. They’re trying to turn their season around and this week in Seattle they’ll have an opportunity to shape their future as well.
With the team surpassing the balance sheet tax competition threshold by more than $40 million last season, the Metropolitans lack a true first-round pick — their pick fell 10 places. You’ll finally get on the clock at #32.

The round hasn’t been great for the Mets in recent history. They have not lined up an All-Star since 2014, when they picked Michael Conforto.
Only two first-rounders from the 2015-21 draft remain in the organization — starter David Peterson and third baseman Brett Baty.
Team owner Steve Cohen has promised to spend money while trying to build the farm system in a way that will bring lasting success. Money can solve many problems, but Cohen’s checkbook can only go so far. If the Mets want to be among the best in the league, they need to start better identifying talent in the draft.
At MLB All-Star Week, New York hopes to select someone who can one day represent the Orange-Blues in the Midsummer Classic. The Mets may not make their first pick until No. 32, but they have two compensation picks thanks to the departures of Jacob deGrom and Chris Bassitt.
Here’s who the Mets will pick in the 2023 MLB Draft and who they may draft early.
