National Sport Day to feature 130 activities, over 100 entities

The National Sports Day (NSD) Committee has announced that Tuesday’s 12th National Sports Day activities will be themed “The choice is yours” to highlight the importance of a sports day in the country, Qatar News Agency reports. Abdul Rahman Musallam al-Dosari, adviser to SE to the Minister of Sport and Youth and president of the NSD Committee, stressed during a news conference at the Lusail Multipurpose Hall on Sunday that the National Sports Day had been instrumental in raising awareness of the importance of sport to sharpen in the lives of individuals and society. He announced about 130 activities this year in different parts of the country in places like Parks and Sports Facilities, Doha Corniche, Aspire Zone, The Pearl Island, Qatar Foundation, Lusail, Al Shamal, Al Sheehaniya, Al Wakra and other places with more than 100 organizations participating in the events. NSD activities have been spread across different regions of the country and will be open to everyone since early Tuesday morning. Al-Dosari said that since the first edition of the National Sports Day in February 2012 was aligned with a 2011 Amiri resolution implementing the Qatar National Vision 2030 through the development of the human element, awareness of the importance of sport in society has increased , in which Qatar has invested in recent years land and a large number of parks, green areas and beaches, etc. The chairman of the NSD committee explained that the slogan “The Choice is Yours” encompasses many values ​​and relates to the goals of community sport movement for a healthy, good and happy life through the decision of an individual. Al-Dosari stressed the importance of community sport, which is an important vehicle to achieve these goals through three axes. The first is awareness of the practice of sport and an individual’s decision to make sport a way of life. Second is the counseling axis, which is achieved through collaboration with partners from the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), which has equipped about 30 centers in the country for comprehensive medical examinations. The third axis is practice, which involves awareness and “a sense of responsibility towards yourself, your family and society,” al-Dosari added, to encourage everyone to work with family members and colleagues to participate in sporting activities. The official also highlighted the Qatar Sports for All (QSFA) Federation calendar, which features 683 sporting activities throughout the year, the largest the federation has launched since its inception. He said the goal is to raise public awareness of the importance of playing sport, especially as QSFA’s sporting events target different segments of society and utilize the state’s sporting facilities. An example of this would be the fitness center (arena) in Lusail, which is dedicated to women’s activities and takes place in complete privacy. He added that QSFA strives to showcase sports venues, activities and events through the association’s application to allow subscribers to receive awareness news and receive a medical report on obesity and biometrics in cooperation with the Ministry of Health. Al-Dosari thanked all the partners who contributed to the implementation of the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s plan for this year’s National Sports Day. Meanwhile, Ali al-Khater, Chair of MoPH’s Public Health Communications Committee, expressed his appreciation for working with the Ministry of Sports Youth as they work on several initiatives that help make physical activity a societal daily practice, promote individual health and reduce the rate of chronic diseases. He said this year’s theme of National Sports Day embodies the adoption of a healthy lifestyle to improve individuals’ mental and physical health and the prevention of many chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease, in addition to activities focused on the elderly. Referring to the preparations for National Sports Day, al-Khater concluded his remarks with assurances that the MoPH “has prepared teams to the highest standard under the supervision of respected experts and has a huge fleet of ambulances spread out across all areas and events and organize activities on sports day. “We are well prepared and invite everyone to enthusiastically participate in the events,” he added. At the end of the press conference, the QSFA honored Qatari citizen Salem al-Marri, who is a sporting role model, for his continuous participation in the federation’s program of activities, held daily throughout the year in public parks. al-Marri in turn thanked the Ministry of Sports and Youth and QSFA for making sports accessible to all.
