New Apple TV 4K (2022): how to pre-order

Apple announced an upgrade to its Apple TV 4K streamer, highlighted by the powerful A15 Bionic chip that promises faster performance and smoother gaming, and the addition of HDR10+ support.

The latest device is the perfect upgrade if you bought the 2021 device, and you can get two new versions of the 2022 Apple TV 4K, increasing the base storage from 32GB to 64GB with Wi-Fi. The high-end WiFi plus Ethernet model features threaded networks and a whopping 128GB of storage.

You can order the 2022 Apple TV 4K from Apple today for a starting price of $129 (that’s $50 less than the previous Apple TV 4K). The premium product Wi-Fi plus Ethernet costs $149. The devices will hit retail stores on Friday, November 4th.

2022 Apple TV 4K

While it’s probably not the best news for those who bought the 2021 product, the latest Apple TV 4K is smaller, faster, and more powerful — all for $50 less than its previous iteration.

Getting more for less is always something to applaud. And Apple’s cheaper upgrade from the previous A12 Bionic chip to the more powerful A15 will increase speed, intelligence and graphics. The new chip also makes the hardware physically smaller and more efficient.

The company claims that the new chip will enable the Apple TV 4K to be 50% faster than the previous device, as well as 30% faster GPU performance for smoother gameplay. And when it comes to watching your favorite shows and movies, HDR10+ support, which blends standard HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, means better detail and more vibrant colors.

The Siri Remote won’t change from its recent redesign, although we’re still pleased that it replaces the original controller’s wobbly trackpad design. However, it has a USB-C port for charging instead of Lightning.

While Apple didn’t give an exact date, it did mention a fall upgrade for its tvOS 16. This should include specific updates to Siri for easier voice control with the Apple TV. This includes the ability to recognize each user’s voice, so you don’t have to compete with your friends and family’s questionable tastes in streaming content.

Other features include easier sharing of photos from iCloud to Apple TV and updated SharePlay over FaceTime.

While it’s probably not the best news for those who bought the 2021 product, the latest Apple TV 4K is smaller, faster, and more powerful — all for $50 less than its previous iteration.

And in addition to the A15 Bionic chip and the upgrade to HDR10+, it can also serve as a smart home hub for HomeKit users.
