Rangers appear to be making way for Kane

Date: Monday February 27th

The devil is in the details. After thwarting the Blackhawks’ 4-3 OT win over the Sharks on Saturday, the Rangers appear destined to win the Patrick Kane sweepstakes.

On Sunday night, the Rangers made a small step that many think is trying to open up the necessary cap space to land the Blackhawks star.

Seems not if, but when Kane will end up with the blueshirts.

Capitals could be a suitor for Jakob Chychrun

Date: Friday February 24th

The Arizona chychrun saga continues and at this point we just want a deal to be struck. The Bruins are very likely out after being traded to the Capitals for Dmitry Orlov, but that opens up a potential new suitor: Washington.

With an additional first-round pick at their disposal, the Capitals have reportedly been investigating the Coyotes’ defender. They join a long list of teams interested in chychrun including the Kings, Oilers, Senators, Blues and Blue Jackets.

Blackhawks and Rangers continue to discuss Patrick Kane deal

Date: Friday February 24th

Although Rangers took over Vladimir Tarasenko earlier, they still participate in the Kane Sweepstakes. The team is reportedly trying to make its cap work and will need to make room before a deal can be finalized. New York left forwards Vitali Kravtsov and Jake Leschyshyn out of the lineup on February 23 for “roster management reasons,” which could indicate a deal in the works.

Kane also didn’t train on Friday. He was listed as free for one maintenance day.

Capitals could continue to sell

Date: Friday February 24th

GM Brian MacLellan signaled to the rest of the league that he was selling in a deal to send Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway to the Bruins. Both were pending UFAs and neither agreed on an extension with the capitals.

Now there are nine UFAs left in Washington, including forwards Lars Eller and Conor Sheary, and defenders Nick Jensen and Erik Gustafsson. We’ll see how active the Caps are after making their first move with Orlov.
