Nikki Sixx is the latest musician to play on Dolly Parton’s much-anticipated rock album
Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx is the latest musician to confirm her participation in Dolly Parton’s long-awaited foray into rock. Sixx brought the news shortly update on twitter (opens in new tab)casually noting, “Played bass on a song for Dolly Parton yesterday,” before quickly moving on to more mundane things.
The booking will certainly be some consolation for Sixx, who was confronted just last week by Vanilla Fudge drummer Carmine Appice for allegedly relying on backing tapes for Motley Crue’s stadium tour with Def Leppard last summer.
Parton’s highly anticipated rock album is due out this year and will feature covers of songs by Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Prince and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Justified rock starThere will be guest appearances from Elton John, Pink, Brandi Carlile, Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty, Steve Perry, Steven Tyler and Cher.
Another musician who will contribute to the album will be REO Speedwagon’s Kevin Cronin, he told Yahoo Totally 80s podcast (opens in new tab) last month that he and Parton had recorded a “dark duet” version of the band’s 1980 hit keep loving you.
“When I wrote this song, I made myself out to be more of a good guy than I might have been,” Cronin said. “Maybe it takes more than a snake in the grass ‘all curled up and hissing’ to tango – if you know what I mean. That’s the reality of the song, you know?
“So I came up with the idea that Dolly could sing the first verse, and in the first verse I am deceive her. But then I take the second verse and in the second verse I’m like, ‘Oh Yes? So, I know all about it Men!’ And now the song becomes this kind of dark duet – until it gets to the chorus, which is where they’re going.I meant every word I said. When I said I love you, I meant I love you forever Dolly.’
“And I sing it in harmony. It’s easy kills me, because that’s how the song should be played; I just didn’t realize it until Dolly called me the other day. So that’s how we’re going to do it and I’m just so excited.”
