Pair set for monster December fight
Tyson Fury will come out of retirement… SHOCK! To take over Oleksandr Usyk in an undisputed heavyweight fight in Saudi Arabia earlier this year in a fight for the ages, both athletically and financially.
The Gypsy King’s team are in talks to secure a fight worth more than £85million. That’s what Usyk’s first defense last weekend was worth.
He defended Anthony Joshua again on points to defend his titles after dethroning the Brit in his first fight last year.
Usyk now holds the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO and Ring Magazine belts while Fury holds the WBC after failing to vacate them despite announcing his retirement.
It’s been 20 years since we’ve seen an undisputed heavyweight champion and it seems we only have to wait a few more months.
The fight has been rescheduled for December 17 in Saudi Arabia, according to the Daily Mail, giving the Middle East a couple of months of sporting significance formula One Season ends in November in Abu Dhabi during the World Championship The finals will take place the day after the fight on the 18th.
After Usyk and AJ dueled in Jeddah, the Saudi sports minister is targeting the fight in Riyadh stating: “We are very interested in fighting for the undisputed heavyweight title. That’s what we want to do in the city of Riyadh.”
Fury has until Friday to confirm his plans to continue or he will be forced to vacate his WBC title, although that doesn’t seem to be an issue now with the Gypsy King on the way back.
After his win, Usyk demanded the fight and said he wouldn’t set foot in the ring again unless it was with Fury.
In comparison, Fury reacted to the win by claiming he could beat both Joshua and Usyk on the same night and would come back to make England proud again after losing belts.
Since his first “retirement” after the defeat Dillian WhyteFury has been back and forth at the idea of retiring, making conflicting statements on an almost daily basis, but he seems finally determined to continue his career to make history.
Both fighters have unbeaten records so someone’s gotta go zero! One thing that will not be zero regardless of the outcome is their bank balance.
The fight purse is expected to be worth at least £125m, meaning Fury and Usyk will each earn around £45m-50m.
Lenox Lewis was the last undisputed world heavyweight champion so Saudi Arabia will have the whole world watching in December when boxing’s historic night is followed by the World Championship finals, does it get much better?
Anger against Usyk? We can hardly wait!
