Panthers vs. Browns: How to watch, TV channel, live stream info, start time for Baker Mayfield revenge game

Baker Mayfield is back and he’s ready to go”off the leashagainst his former team in Week 1. The former Browns quarterback will start the Panthers’ 2022 season Sunday as Carolina’s new signal caller, and he’ll do it against the franchise that drafted him No. 1 overall four years ago. Suffice it to say, Charlotte’s cross-conference clash is already brimming with drama.

Mayfield will have a healthy Christian McCaffrey at his side, along with No. 1 receiver DJ Moore, but he faces a Cleveland defense with some of the best talent in their respective positions, including Myles Garrett from the edge and Jeremiah Owusu- Koramoah at linebacker to Denzel Ward at cornerback. The Browns, meanwhile, are relying on veteran backup Jacoby Brissett to handle QB duties, with Deshaun Watson suspended for the first 11 games.

Does Baker have enough moxie to bring down his former squad? Or is Cleveland’s all-round talent too strong to surpass? Anyway, this one’s a lively one. How to turn on:

key figures

  • Christian McCaffrey (Panthers): Obviously, but we probably don’t talk enough about how much McCaffrey can help Mayfield regain confidence as a regular starter thanks to his value as a pass-catching safety valve. If he can win against the Cleveland linebackers in space, Carolina should be able to control the ball.
  • Ikem Ekwonu (Panthers): The rookie left tackle is tasked with protecting Mayfield’s blind side, which is possibly the X-factor of the entire game. Baker tends to get sloppy with his footwork and pocket movement when things fall apart up front, and the Browns have quite the pass-rushing tandem with Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney.
  • Jadeveon Clowney (Browns): The veteran edge-rusher is struggling with an illness, but he should start up front against Garrett and take on rookie Ekwonu. He’s been a pretty mixed bag performer throughout his career, but if he starts hot, he might be able to throw Mayfield off his rhythm for the rest of the day.

Latest Odds:

Carolina Panthers PK

Nothing drives an NFL game like defiance, especially at the QB position, and Mayfield would love nothing more than to pin it on the team that traded him for a polarizing Superstar. The Browns should be able to stay close thanks to their impressive defense, but in the end we trust Mayfield and his guns just a little more than Brissett and his. The latter may be experienced, but he’s never been particularly efficient, and Amari Cooper is the only proven threat in the entire world.

Choose: Panther 23, Brown 20
