Perfect News for William Haggas in Naas feature
Perfect News showed great attitude and stayed strong to win the Group 3 Tally-Ho Stud Irish EBF Ballyogan Stakes in Naas.
Trained by William Haggas, the Frankel filly was sent off with a 9/1 chance after finishing second in a six furlong listing at Chantilly.
Although she found the ground quickly enough, Chris Hayes’ mount knelt down half a length to make up for the run’s bad luck. Teresa Mendoza was a neck down in third place.
Hayes said: “I spoke to Mr Haggas this morning and he told me that the ground is as it is, she will handle it but she will not be as effective as she would with ease.
“She has held up well, is an improving filly and that was an important black guy.”

Moyglare and Fillies’ Mile entry Madly Truly (10/11 favourite) had to struggle to hold debutant Sibyl Charm’s late push in the seven furlong Irish EBF Median Sires Series Fillies Maiden – giving her sire Cracksman a first winner in Ireland .
The Joseph O’Brien-trained winner, who chased Sheyya home on her first start at Leopardstown, clearly benefited from the experience, taking a lonely lead under Dylan Browne McMonagle and finding more as the runner-up came her way.
O’Brien said: “She is a strong, capable mare and we will not overtax her this year. She is certainly a filly that we are looking forward to.
“I think they cantered pretty well and she got up from a wide train. She got a little tangled in the last 50 yards.
“We like them and we’re going to look at something like the Listed race at Champions weekend. Maybe we’ll give her more time.”
Dower House (100-30) scored first on the third try for Aidan O’Brien in the six furlong Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies’ Maiden at the hands of Seamie Heffernan.
Beaten twice over seven furlongs, the drop in trip helped the daughter of Galileo, who overcame a difficult tie to score through a neck from Spirit Gal.
O’Brien’s representative, Chris Armstrong, said: “Seamus gave her a nice ride.
“Obviously she’s had two heats and is a filly who has shown a lot of pace at home. Aidan felt that dropping to just under six shouldn’t be a problem for her.
“I think she appreciated the faster ground than what she was on twice. She’s a filly with a beautiful pedigree and keeps up with every run.
“We’ll try to boost them to Stakes Company next time, maybe around Champions weekend.
“She is a sister of Churchill and a sister of Clemmie. Clemmie also broke her girl on her third run. She is a nice person to look forward to.”
Winemaker made a winning debut and provided a 100/1 shock in the six furlong Irish EBF Auction Series Maiden.
Gavin Ryan used Jimmy Coogan-trained Johnny Barnes son to score a half-length from Mount Mary.
Coogan said: “I thought he was going to run well and maybe finish in the top three or four with a bit of luck. I’m very happy with him. He showed himself a bit at home and did a good job.”
