‘PLEASE STOP USING’: More major recalls at Costco, Walmart, Sport Chek, Home Depot and Mark’s on sweaters, blankets, cleaners and tables trigger multiple Health Canada warnings to shoppers | News

Health Canada is warning shoppers after thousands of items were pulled from the shelves and online marketplaces of big-name stores.

One of the recalls involves Snbeam blankets sold at Costco (Item 9931015 Ultralush Queen Heated Blanket – Charcoal, Item 9931016 Ultralush Queen Heated Blanket – Stone Gray, Item 9931017 Ultralush Queen Heated Blanket – Blue Sea and Item 9931018 Ultralush Queen Heated Blanket – sleeve).

“Star Elite, Inc. has received a warning from Costco that the Sunbeam Ultra Lush Electric Blankets – Queen Size Model Number: 32810027 may overheat and pose a potential fire or burn hazard.” Star Elite, Inc. has notified Health Canada of the problem. While no injuries have been reported to date, you should immediately unplug and discontinue use of the Sunbeam Queen Size Electric Blanket, Model Number: 32810027.”

Costco has said it will communicate next steps “as soon as we can; in the meantime, please stop using the product.”

Additionally, customers can return the product to your local Costco warehouse as part of a Costco membership.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” Costco said in its warning.

Another recall involves nearly 130,000 hoodies and sweaters sold in Mark’s and Sport Chek stores in Canada, Canadian Tire has confirmed, due to flammability hazards.

The affected Helly Hansen Products containing brushed cotton fabrics that have undergone a special treatment either do not or may not conform Textile flammability regulationsHealth Canada said in its recall warning.

As of January 9, 2023, the Company has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the affected products in Canada or any other jurisdiction.

The company reported that 128,680 units of the affected product have been sold in Canada since 2019.

“Consumers should immediately stop using Helly Hansen’s recalled sweaters and hoodies and then contact the company for credit,” Health Canada said.

A third recall involves Ove Decors’ 42-inch Vanessa fire table in Dark Charcoal (model number: 29PFT-VA1A42-CHDRY), which was sold at Home Depot and other stores due to fire hazards.

As of January 19, the company has reported an incident where a gas hose melted, causing the table in Canada to catch fire and no injuries were reported.

The company reported that 14 units of the affected product were sold in Canada from July 2021 to September 2022.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled fire table, ensure the gas tank is turned off, and contact Ove Decors for a free repair kit including shipping,” the recall warning reads. Consumers are provided with a snap hook to keep the hose away from the heat shield and a warning tag.

A fourth recall affects only Fabuloso Multi-Purpose Cleaner – Lavender Scent, 1.65L, Manufacturing (Batch) Code 3015US78 or 3016US78. The affected products can be identified by the UPC 035000977588 and have been sold in Walmart stores and online in Canada.

At Walmart Canada, product safety is our top priority,” said Walmart spokeswoman Felicia Fefer, adding that the nationally branded product was offered for sale by Walmart Canada and third-party retailers on the Walmart Canada Marketplace. “In light of the recall, that was it withdrawn from sale.”

The company reported that 21,498 units of the affected product have been sold in Canada and 1,054,967 in the United States since January.

The detergent products do not contain the intended levels of preservatives, which can lead to the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms during the product’s shelf life and during manufacture. People with healthy immune systems are not usually affected when exposed to such growths, but those with compromised immune systems may be at increased risk.

As of February 6, 2023, the Company has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the affected product in Canada or the United States.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Fabuloso Multi-Purpose Cleaner – Lavender Scent, 1.65L,” the recall warning reads. “Consumers should photograph the UPC code/batch code to contact Colgate-Palmolive for a full refund of the purchase price (with receipt) or manufacturer’s suggested retail price (without receipt), or a voucher for a free replacement bottle.” After requesting a refund, consumers should dispose of the product safely in accordance with local municipal waste regulations.”
