Preview, schedule, and how to watch the stars compete in Tokyo
Originally scheduled for March 2020, the 1st International Gymnastics Federation World Parkour Championships are finally here, starting on Friday October 14, 2022 in Tokyo, Japan.
As the sport, which originated some three decades ago in a suburb of Paris, prepares to take center stage, here at Olympics.com is everything you need to know about the event, including which stars to watch, the schedule and how you can follow all the action .
Stars to Watch: World Parkour Championships 2022 – Tokyo
After two World Cup competitions earlier this year in Montpellier and Sofia, the athletes already had a chance to make their mark in the 2022 season.
For men, the Netherlands Tanguy Van Schigen is ranked No. 1 in the world after collecting silver medals in both World Cup events earlier this year. However, he will have a lot of competition, including from the likes of Ukraine Bohdan Kolmakov won the title in Sofia and at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama and the Czech Republic Jaroslav Chum who was the title winner in Montpellier.
Miranda Tibbles of Sweden was gold at both World Cups this season in the women’s speed events, while Spain’s Steffany Navarro recorded two silver medal finishes and set up another match at the World Championships.
Sweden Elis Torhall and Mexico’s Ella Bucio won gold medals at both the men’s and women’s world championships this season and will be the traceurs to beat in Tokyo.
