On Monday, August 29, 2022, the eyes of the tennis The world will turn to Flushing Meadows for the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year, the US Open.

For two weeks, players will compete on the hard courts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center for a chance to be immortalized in tennis history. And with so many intriguing storylines to unfold in this installment, the action in New York is sure to capture the attention of fans around the world.

Qualifying for the tournament will take place before the Main Event: from Tuesday 23rd August to Friday 26th August. The draw for the tournament is expected to take place on Thursday 25th August.

The wildcards were announced on August 17 and include the four-time Olympic gold medalist venus williams, fellow american Sofia Kenin and champions 2020 Dominik Thiem.

The headline of the event is the news that this Grand Slam will likely be the last 23-time major winner in a competitive tennis tournament Serena Williams will ever play.

Earlier this month, the 41-year-old announced her intention to retire in an article in Vogue magazine. Williams said she is moving away from the sport to expand her family.

The four-time Olympic gold medalist, considered by many to be the greatest ever to compete in the sport, will enjoy her swan song in front of her home crowd, where she is a six-time winner.

Will it be a fairy tale ending for Williams, who is just one Grand Slam title away from equaling Margaret Court’s record?

Defending champion at the age of 19 Emma Raducanu wants among those trying to defeat Williams. So does the Polish world number one Iga Swiatek.

Swiatek started the year in brilliant form, winning the French Open going 37 games unbeaten. The 21-year-old’s fall came in the third round of Wimbledon and she has been struggling to regain her footing ever since.

At the recent Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, Swiatek lost in straight sets to Madison Keys in the round of 16, suggesting she’s still on her feet.

If you’re looking for a winner, don’t disregard other top 10 players, all looking to capitalize on Poland’s recent decline. Aspiring American Prospect Jessica Pegula and Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur are just two names that could go far in Flushing.

Omitting Djokovic and Zverev opens the field for accusations from the likes Stefanos Tsitsipas, Carlo Alcaraz from Spain and Denmark Kasper Ruud, all chasing after their first Grand Slam victory.

The youngest finalist at the Cincinnati Open, Tsitsipas, poses a real threat to Medvedev. The fifth in the world rankings had to admit defeat to an enthusiast in the final Boran Corcic his return from injury.

The Greek prevailed with Medvedev in the semifinals, cementing his credentials as a one-to-watch in New York.

The 2022 US Open also marks the one-year anniversary of Alcaraz’s breakthrough.
