‘Quantumania’ Hits Another Record Low as Phase Five Stumbles From One Crisis to the Next

It looked so promising for the start Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s Phase Five until it actually started using Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania creating a staggering sense of dread that divisive Phase Four might have been no small misstep.

Peyton Reed’s Threequel keeps hitting those unwanted benchmarks, and when you combine that with the other issues that have plagued the franchise of late, it’s easy to see why fans are so concerned. It’s not all doom and gloom just yet, but that doesn’t mean we live in a multiverse of sunshine and roses.

Quantumania continues to scrape the bottom of the MCU barrel

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is just ahead eternal on Rotten Tomatoes when it comes to determining the MCU’s all-time worst-rated part, but it joins the mind-blowing intergalactic epic at the end of the barrel in another key indicator of audience reaction.

Scott Lang’s third standalone adventure and Chloe Zhao’s cosmic caper are now the only two of the 31 features in the long-running superhero saga to receive a B rating from CinemaScore, and two of the three B+ titles are Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness And Thor: Love and Thunderthe downward movement speech gains more weight with the release.

Variety is the spice of life, but let’s hope Phase 5 with Consistency will match that

In a turn-up for the books, the Multiverse Saga is surprisingly light in terms of direct sequels, with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty And Secret Wars the only titles from the same series to be released from the beginning of the fourth phase to the end of the sixth phase.

Of course, many established favorites and a certain mercenary with a mouth have new adventures along the way, but there are also some launches and a few reboots, but we can only hope the rest of the list can match quantity with quality, albeit Quantumania has dampened these expectations.

In a potentially damning indicator, even the stars themselves have admitted the potential ant man 4 was intended to return to its roots, which many fans and general audiences would much rather see due to the Threequel’s reception.
