Randwick Review: Anamoe Set For Huge Spring
ANAMOE cemented his position as Australia’s top horse with his win in the Group One Winx Stakes at Randwick, preparing for a big spring that once again underscored James Cummings’ training skills.
It was another masterstroke of training for Cummings, who set Anamoe up for a first win as he wanted him to add a 1400m Group 1 to his resume as a stallion.
Cummings said there weren’t many opportunities to win races like this in Australia and he was overcome with emotion after the win.
Cummings also pointed out that only two other horses have won Group One races as two-year-olds, three-year-olds and four-year-olds in the last 30 years, namely Octagonal and Show A Heart.
Cummings said it’s amazing how Anamoe has come back to ride a better horse every prep. The fact that he was able to do that also testified to his training skills.
Cummings also said that with a bit of luck, Anamoe could have won a Golden Slipper Stakes as a two-year-old and a Cox Plate as a three-year-old.
He hasn’t revealed what spring plans were for Anamoe, but there’s little doubt the Cox Plate would be his main target.
After the race was slow paced and James McDonald gave Anamoe a perfect run, the race was at his mercy.
The strong Godolphin team also unveiled the day’s second most impressive winner as Zapateo, also from Street Boss, put on the most impressive performance of her career with an easy win at the Toy Show Stakes.
Danny O’Brien, who coached showmanship after only making his second start in two years, brought his record to an impressive eight wins from 10 starts as he covered five lengths in the final 300 yards of the Show County Stakes to finish comfortably to win.

BENAUD
John O’Shea’s light stayer is in for a huge spring, judging from his first return with a sixth-place finish in the Winx Stakes, beaten by just 2.59 lengths. He recorded the fourth-fastest last 200 meters, with only the runners-up setting faster times. Looks like a Caulfield Cup horse.

She recorded the fastest final 200 meters of 10.81 seconds. Chris Waller has managed to get her to improve every campaign and she’s looking for her best yet. She’s only got 11 starts so there’s a lot to come.
JAMEA
Trained by Robert and Luke Price, the four-year-old mare was the section star of the meeting, recording the meeting’s fastest final 200 meters of 10.67 seconds as she came from far behind and finished second behind Zapateo. She’s a backmarker but looks like a great campaign.
