The sale will take place on Wednesday 7 June in the winner’s enclosure at the Vaal racecourse.

The sale starts at 10am.

This will be followed by a celebratory Fortune Farewell Buy and Braai – the best prego buns in town are up for grabs after the sale!

Ashley Fortune has kindly provided the Sporting Post with a few thoughts on each of the 24 lots.

Lot 1: Princess Kesh – has dropped significantly in the standings – was 3rd in her last start in a very strong race – definitely worth a look – will be competitive in JHB, DBN or PE.

Lot 2: ripple effect – very clever filly – won again in Turffontein on Thursday.

Lot 3: tinted rose – has already been competitive on far too short trips. Will be a good buy.

Lot 4: Take cover – no doubt has some wins coming up – just needed the time we gave it. If you don’t bid on him, you’re missing out.

Lot 5: Unridden Ruby Sunset – pretty Talk Of The Town yearling filly – was supported.

Lot 6: San Quintin – nice stay type. He has a pleasingly low rating so he can still be competitive in the higher divisions.

Lot 7: Something royal – very smart, unridden filly. Showed she will be better than fine. I’d be surprised if she didn’t win on her first few starts.

Lot 8: symbol of love – Sand work is better than its shape suggests. Might win a race in the sport

Lot 9: Symmetrical– unridden, very well trained – suggests that she will be nice. Shows speed in her work – just takes a little time.

Lot 10: Texas Red – Very effective in turns. I think he will go even further. Nice gelding.

Lot 11: Timbavati River – I think he’s still capable of winning another race or two in the smaller centres.

Lot 12: comprehensive protection– has jumped twice since his last race and his starting place certificate has been restored. Very noble. He is shown to be capable of winning a feature.

Lot 13: Tropo Veloce – very beautiful filly. A bright future lies ahead of her. Shows a lot at home.

Lot 14: unexpected visuality – William Longsword, year-old filly – was supported.

Lot 15: Whistledown – Intelligent, unridden filly – ready to race. Looks decent.

Lot 16: Bard of Avon – was second on his last start – still think he has a lot left in the tank and we haven’t gotten to the bottom of him yet. Will be a very good buy.

Lot 17: Bella Chica – for stud – nice temperament. uncomplicated.

Lot 18: Black Heron – still immature – is almost 17hh – once he fully understands and strengthens it, he will definitely get ahead.

Lot 19: Camerata – could win another race in PE

Lot 20: Captain Hindsight – still loves his races – always gives his best.

Lot 21: Ipso Facto – very smart filly – will no doubt be a good stayer when she grows up. She still has the opportunity to race.

Lot 22: Lady Sanza – Filly due to injury only for the stallion.

Lot 23: Mayor of Merrivale – will definitely win more than a race or two – matures late and looking for more ground. He was second up in his last race.

Lot 24: On cue – extremely brave filly – always gives her best and can still win a race or two.
