Redesigned Trophy For Dick’s Sporting Goods Open

The DICK’S Sporting Goods Open celebrated its 15th anniversary and was a great success in every respect. The Zac Brown Band concert on Friday night, August 19th, was perhaps the best GDPR concert to date.

New this year was Birdies for Cancer at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Open with Broome County Community Charities. For every birdie made during the three-day event, money was donated to UHS and Lourdes Hospital Foundations.

Security Mutual also gives a 10% bonus on every dollar raised. 939 birdies were made at En-Joie golf course and when we know the financial record we will pass it on.

We also crowned a new champion, Padraig Harrington, as he claimed his second win of the season. He said he’ll be back next year to defend his title and look to partner with Brad Faxon as the lone back-to-back winner on the golf course.

Harrington is a class and a true pro and I can’t wait to see him next year when he returns. But did you notice anything different when the trophy was handed over this year?

As the European lifted the trophy, I noticed that it looked like the winner’s trophy got a little facelift.

Check out the differences between the two trophies below. Harrington is left and 2021 winner Cameron Beckman is right:

A few notable changes. For one, the 2022 trophy definitely looks like it’s eaten its veggies, but it appears to be a little beefier.

The two rings surrounding the tournament’s logo are also gone, but it looks like a balanced trade as the logo now sits on a large golf ball which looks nice. The base is now hollowed out so it definitely looks easier to hold as there’s a little more to grab.

There are also a variety of sporting symbols surrounding the base of the trophy (a baseball, a basketball, a fishing hook, etc.). At first glance it might seem odd to have these on a golf specific trophy, but then you think back to all the different sporting equipment sold by Dick’s Sporting Goods and it starts to make sense.

So what do you think of the redesign? Congratulations again to Padraig Harrington and see you in 2023 when the PGA Tour Champions return to En-Joie Golf Course.

It will be held earlier next year, from June 19th to 25th. Some people have wondered why the date was pushed back to the end of the high school year. Dates are set by the PGA Tour, not the DICK’S Sporting Goods Open.

There are numerous “best golf course” lists circulating. These are suggested by popular golf magazines, websites, golf professionals, and others. Surprisingly, almost everyone agrees on the best spots in New York, with some slightly moving a particular spot up or down their rankings.

I like this list of the top 100 golf courses online in partnership with sports company TaylorMade. I like it because they also include a bit of course history in their comments section for each entry. Each of the top 25 golf courses in Upstate New York (in this gallery) has a “to the list” link so you can see other golf courses that are not in Upstate and their ranking.
Note: This featured gallery only contains the top 25 for Upstate New York, but there are others, so be sure and check out “the list”.
