Reports: Paul Pogba to miss up to a month due to latest injury setback

Paul Pogba’s face as he left J Medical on Monday morning really said it all.

The news wasn’t good – and he knew it. And it was just another development in a season of frustration for a player who was expected to do great things on his comeback to Juventus.

Juventus announced shortly after Pogba left the club’s medical facilities that the Frenchman had indeed suffered another muscle injury following his knee surgery, which kept him out of the World Cup and the entire first half of the 2022-23 season. Juve said Pogba suffered “a slight tear to his right thigh adductor” – which happened while taking free-kicks in training on Sunday morning. said Romeo Agresti from Goal Italia – and that “he has already started the rehabilitation process aimed at resuming competitive activity.”

According to reports from Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio and Tuttosport, Pogba could be out of injury for up to a month – which is a pretty rough estimate given how the season has gone. While an international break begins next week and will take up half of that potential month-long absence, what is most disheartening is the fact that it is the latest in a now-long list of injuries.

Pogba seemed to be coming around the corner from his injury woes as he made his second official Juventus debut in the Derby della Mole against Torino on the last day of February. It was a brief 20-minute cameo but it should be the signal to all of us that Pogba was finally available and willing to contribute in any way while increasing his match fitness.

Pogba appeared again as a substitute in Juve’s defeat by Roma four days later, with Max Allegri saying the Frenchman was showing signs he could slowly get more minutes back.

And then Sunday morning happened and gave us another chance to just shake our heads at one of the most disappointing – and certainly frustrating – and certainly frustrating – seasons of a big Juventus signing for Pogba and the fans.

This is Pogba’s third muscle injury since trying to return to part training after knee surgery. And of course, after his initial conservative therapy didn’t work at all when trying to make a comeback in time for the World Cup.

In total, Pogba has missed nearly 40 games this season.
