Since its inception, the Bugatti Chiron has been the benchmark against which all new hypercars are judged. However, this new review from Evo Magazine reveals that the Chiron has officially been dethroned by the all-electric Rimac Nevera.

With Bugatti and Rimac now operating as a joint venture, Evo Magazine decided it would be the perfect time to see how their two flagship models compare. The Chiron reviewed is the most impressive Supersport variant, and as well-rounded as it is, it doesn’t seem to hold a candle to the Nevera.

In terms of performance, the Chiron Super Sport is powered by an 8.0-liter W16 quad-turbocharger producing 1,578 hp and 1,600 Nm (1,180 lb-ft) of torque. These are extraordinary figures and make the Chiron Super Sport one of the fastest production cars ever designed. For comparison, the Nevera is powered by four electric motors that together deliver 1,914 hp and 1,741 lb-ft (2,360 Nm) of torque.

Steve Sutcliffe says the Rimac Nevera is as fast as the Chiron Super Sport, just blows it out of the water in a straight line. What makes the Nevera all the more impressive is the revelation that it handles and brakes better than the Bugatti. In fact, he says that anything the Chiron Super Sport can do, the Nevera can do three times better.

That’s exceptionally high praise for a car from such a young company, and it’s the first real production car after the Concept One, which produced just eight examples between January 2013 and November 2014.
