Selma Blair rocks cane in latest photoshoot: ‘Unstoppable’
Selma Blair won’t let MS stop her.
On Wednesday, the 50-year-old “Cruel Intentions” actress took to Instagram with a carousel of photos in collaboration with fashion brand La Ligne – in one of them she posed with her walking stick.
“I couldn’t be prouder to be here at your Denim La launch,” she captioned the post for her 3 million+ followers. “Sometimes you have a perfect day. A perfect group. A perfect fit. La Ligne is something I really live in and love. And now to have jeans… Brava ladies! Love you.”
Blair’s stunning photos were captured with warm and supportive messages from fans, who loved including their cane in the shoot.
“Nice that you included your cane in one of the photos. Raise awareness of MS… but make it fashionable. So stunning!” commented one Instagram user.
Another added: “You are unstoppable.”
“Effortless and stunning,” wrote another.
“You even make canes look good. So beautiful and inspirational!” One fan wrote, while another commented, “You are such an inspiration Selma!”
In 2018, Blair was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis – a condition that attacks the central nervous system, preventing communication between the brain and the rest of the body – meaning she often uses a cane to support herself.
In April 2021, Blair opened up about the moment she felt something was wrong, leading to her MS diagnosis.
In conversation with city Country, she revealed that she experienced the first symptoms of her condition in February 2018 at a New York Fashion Week show for designer Christian Siriano. As Blair strutted down the runway, she noticed numbness in one of her legs.
“It was on that runway, with the thrill of walking the show, that I suddenly lost feeling in my left leg,” she recalled. “But I was on a catwalk and I was like, ‘What am I supposed to do?'”
While Blair made an announcement via social media, updating her followers about her diagnosis, it really sank in for many when Blair attended the 2019 vanity fair Oscars party with a jeweled cane.
“It was a no-brainer and there was no choice,” she shared. “I haven’t been on a red carpet in so long and now I came. I knew since my diagnosis that people could be watching. I didn’t know if I would forget and be the last one on the red carpet.”
