Shenlan S7 Is The Latest Must-Have EV From China

The Shenlan S7 is sold in both pure electric and range extender EV variants

This is the latest electrified SUV from China. Dubbed the Shenlan S7, it was brought to life by the Changan, CATL and Huawei-powered brand and serves as the automaker’s second model, following in the footsteps of the SL03 sedan.

Chinese automakers have made a name for themselves in recent years by designing and producing vehicles that look truly unique. With the S7, we have a rather imposing mid-range SUV that looks quite similar to the SL03 sedan.

With that in mind, the S7 has a fairly high and dramatic front fascia with sporty LED headlights and large glossy black air intake surrounds that also house the fog lights. Although there is no traditional grille, the S7 still looks quite good. Elsewhere, you’ll notice that it has gloss black wheel arches and flashy 20-inch wheels with a black and silver finish. Other important design details of the SUV are the slim C-pillars, the fascinating LED rear lights and the light bar, as well as the striking diffuser.

Auto News China reports that two variants of the S7 will be built. The first version will be all-electric, delivering 258 hp and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque, but it’s not yet known what the size of its battery pack is or how much range it will have. Then there’s the range-extender EV version, which uses a 258 hp, 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) electric motor and a 95 hp 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine. Details on the range and battery capacity of this variant also remain a mystery.

The inside of the Shenlan S7 is just as impressive as the outside. Key features include the two-spoke steering wheel, a large heads-up display, a landscape-focused infotainment screen, dual wireless charging pads, and a dashboard that’s completely devoid of buttons and switches. The S7 also lacks interior door handles and occupants only have to press a button to open or close the door.

The new SUV will make its public debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in April, before going on sale in China soon after. Prices are expected to start around 160,000 yuan ($23,600).
