Shin Co-Author of Latest Edition of Public Relations Book

Public Relations: Strategies & Tactics published by Pearson, Inc.dr Jae-Hwa Shin, professor of public relations at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) School of Media and Communication, is co-author of the 12thth output from Public Relations: Strategies & Tacticspublished by Pearson, Inc.

In Public Relations: Strategies & Tactics, Researchers, professionals, educators and students will find interesting examples, case studies and infographics everywhere to actively engage with the basic concepts of professional practice. For faculty, it teaches students the basic principles of effective public relations and how to apply them to real-world situations. dr Shin further noted this Public Relations: Strategies and Tactics comprehensively covers the digital and social media that have revolutionized the PR industry, making this issue particularly relevant for understanding current practice and future trends. And the authors’ emphasis on references to pioneering studies and time-honoured public relations techniques in new and social media environments, as well as calls for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, further enhance understanding of the field.

“There has been a major upsurge in the social justice movement fueled by Black Lives Matter, the #metoo movement and increased social and political activism by companies and their employees. Therefore, a major challenge for many organizations has been to change policies and communicate their commitment to DEI – Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – to their various stakeholders,” she said.

dr Shin joined the USM faculty in 2003. Her research focuses on outreach from a strategic conflict management perspective on cultural attitudes in social media environments. Her previous publications include numerous journal articles and book chapters, and she is the co-author of other books including two widely used textbooks, Public Relations Today: Conflict and Competition Management And Think: public relations. She was recently elected Director of Public Relations for the National Communication Association for a three-year term.
