Snow, rain, gusty winds expected Friday in latest messy winter storm

Another winter storm is expected to hit Friday, bringing up to an inch of snow across northern New Jersey and mostly rain elsewhere, along with gusty winds along the Jersey shore, but accumulations are expected to be much less than the storm earlier this week.

The National Weather Service says areas off Interstate 80 North could expect 1 to 2 inches of snow through Saturday morning, with less than an inch in other parts of north and central Jersey.

South Jersey may see a wintry mix of snow and sleet as the system rolls in Friday afternoon and evening, but it will end up mostly raining there.

According to AccuWeather.com, the northern half of New Jersey can expect 1 to 3 inches of snow on Friday that will end through Saturday morning.

Wind gusts could reach 30 to 40mph along the Jersey coast on Friday evening. Some very light ice is also possible in the far northwest corner of Sussex County.

AccuWeather.com is calling for 1 to 3 inches of snow in the northern half of the state along with slippery roads. Flight delays and cancellations are also a problem.

Before the storm, Wednesday will be a calm day with sunny skies and highs in the 40’s and low 50’s. The overnight lows will be fairly mild in early March, with temperatures in the mid 30’s to low 40’s.

The southern half of New Jersey is likely to get only rain Friday night.

Rain is possible during the first half of Thursday, but the weather service says the chance will decrease later in the afternoon and evening.

Clouds continue to build overnight Thursday through Friday, fueling the storm. The lows will be in the upper 20’s in the north western areas and in the mid 30’s in South Jersey.

The weekend will be cloudy and mainly dry with temperatures in the 40’s to around 50’s, about normal for early March.

A winter storm that hit Monday evening and lasted through Tuesday afternoon dumped nearly 7 inches of snow on some areas of Sussex County and a half-foot of snow on parts of Bergen, Morris and Passaic Service Counties and the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, according to National Weather snowfall logs & Snow Network, known as CoCoRaHS.

Between 1 and 5 inches of snow fell in northern and central New Jersey counties, while rain fell in the southern region of the state.
