Sporting a new look – Bundaberg Today
By Tahlia Facer
Sports and leisure lovers in Bundaberg will have more variety and choice in footwear, clothing and much more as internationally renowned INTERSPORT joins the local retail scene.
INTERSPORT Bundaberg has been locally owned since 1993 and was previously run as a Sportspower store which continues to be owned by the same familiar faces of Gail and Mick Pimm who have been trusted by local customers with their sporting needs for 30 years.
“We are very happy to join the INTERSPORT group. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our company to continue to grow in this amazing community,” said Ms. Pimm.
“We pride ourselves on being sports experts and by joining INTERSPORT we can continue to do so by giving us access to the latest products from the big sports brands that customers know and trust.”
Mr and Mrs Pimm stressed that both they and their dedicated and knowledgeable staff will remain in business but will now have more to offer.
“Because of the size of the group we’ve joined, we now have access to a variety of products,” Ms. Pimm said.
“Obviously when you have the support of a group around the world you have more purchasing power and that means we can bring new items to customers in Bundaberg.”
The pair are excited to welcome brands like Frank Green, Reebok and Puma as well as expanding the product range of existing brands people already know and love like Asic, Nike and Brooks.
“We now have broader access to more comprehensive products,” Ms. Pimm said.
As the transition to INTERSPORT is so recent it will take a few months for the store to stock new items but the team is pleased to have access to the online readiness of a global stockist.
“People will be able to click and collect, and … the range that’s available online will give us access to more things that way,” Ms Pimm said.
“Even if we don’t have it in stock, we can offer it to people. That’s the advantage of being part of an international brand.
“It’s about being viable and INTERSPORT aims to be a leader in terms of retail presence in the Australian region.”
INTERSPORT Australia is pleased to build on its reputation as the leading regional sporting goods retailer with the opening of the group’s newest store in Bundaberg, Queensland.
Known in the local communities as “The Heart of Sport”, INTERSPORT is the largest sports retail group in the world. The Australian operation opened in 2014 with 37 branches.
The number of stores has grown over the past decade, with Bundaberg becoming the 16th store in Queensland and the 78th store nationwide to join the group.
INTERSPORT Australia CEO Kevin O’Hanlon said the addition of Bundaberg is an exciting affair for the group.
“It was a very uncomplicated process with the Bundaberg team, they really accepted the INTERSPORT vision and therefore it was a natural fit for both sides,” he said.
“The next 12 months are an exciting time for the INTERSPORT brand in Australia and we look forward to adding more stores to our network across the country.”
The shop is open from May 5th and operates under the name INTERSPORT Bundaberg.
