Sporting champs at Worcestershire Spring School Games

The Worcestershire Spring School Games, organized by Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire, saw children aged four to 14 compete to be crowned champions in six different sports.

To ensure there was something for everyone, children and young people were also encouraged to visit the event’s cultural village.

Inspired by major sporting events this year – like the FIFA Women’s World Cup – the Cultural Village hosted nine activities for everyone to get involved and learn new skills; from bhangra dancing to circus performances.

Kicking off the Games in style, a group of five dancers from Wolverley High School took the stage at the Opening Ceremony with a powerful dance, followed by Scott Smith, Chair of the Worcestershire County Alliance, who awarded two schools Primary and Sport Premium (PPSP)- awards.

Severn Stars player Grace Namana and Captain Gabby Marshall were also present to inspire children to talk about embracing the game’s values ​​and encourage them in their activities.

The event was supported by a team of 150 volunteers from five Worcestershire schools and the University of Worcester.

Aspiring journalists, civil servants and coaches spend their day developing leadership skills and other transferable life skills.

Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chief Executive Officer Stephan Brewster said: “Events such as the School Games are an excellent opportunity to showcase a range of sports and activities for children and young people.

“We recognize the importance of providing our young people with positive experiences to ensure a lifelong habit of physical activity. Looking around at the hundreds of smiling faces here today shows what is possible when you work together with our local, community organizations.”

The games focus on the six values ​​of determination, passion, honesty, self-confidence, teamwork and respect.

Aston Fields Middle School put in a brilliant performance in the indoor athletics competitions, taking the title of district champion in the girls’ 5th/6th graders’ competitions. grade 7 boys, 7 grade girls and 8 grade boys.

Coppice Primary School showed tremendous passion in the 5th/6th Grade Sportshall Athletics Challenge.

Children ages four to seven were determined to show off their basic movement skills in the Reception/KS1 Infant Agility competition, but Badsey First School took first place.

It was a clean win for Kings School Worcester in the netball competitions, taking home gold medals in both the 7th and 9th grade competitions.

Wyre Forest’s Heathfield Knoll School won the top prize in the 3rd/4th Grade Hockey Tournament. grade, while Holy Redeemer Catholic Primary hosted the 5th/6th grade competition. class won.

The organizers of the event were blown away by the confidence and determination the PAN football tournament showed. A fully inclusive offering, teams were made up of individuals from different schools across the county. It was the pink team that would be crowned county champions.
