Stadia is issuing refunds – How to get yours

Stadia is shutting down this January, and with that, the cloud gaming service is refunding almost every purchase you’ve ever made. Here’s how to make sure you get your Stadia refund and see how much is being sent.

When will Stadia shut down?

With the end of the service on January 18, 2023, people are beginning to worry – and rightly so. Once that date comes, Stadia will no longer allow you to play games on the site, likely rendering your Stadia hardware very unusable.

Until then, you can play whatever you want on the service, with the servers alive until that day next year.

Which items are refundable?

The good news here is that Stadia has actually made a decent move and announced that all games and hardware purchases will be refunded as long as they were purchased online. What’s in it? Here is the current list of eligible refunds:

  • game purchases
  • Game Add-On Purchases
  • Stadia Controller Purchases
  • Purchase the Founder Edition
  • Purchase the Premiere Edition
  • Play and Watch with the purchase of a Google TV package

If you have ever made a transaction for any of the above items through Stadia’s online sales platform, whether digital or physical, Stadia will refund you for that purchase. Purchases made at Best Buy or in person will not be refunded, only what is linked to your online account and purchased through the Stadia website.

Depending on how much you’ve invested in Stadia, you could expect hundreds of dollars worth of refunds.

How do I get my Stadia refund?

Depending on how much you’re getting back from the cloud gaming platform, you’re probably wondering how and when the money will come through. At this time, Stadia hasn’t released any details on this part of the process.

Google stated that the “intent is to trace the majority of refunds back to the original payment,” although nothing is definitive.

One thing we suggest is going to your Stadia profile and Make sure your active payment method is up to date. If you want refunds to be made to the card on file, you’ll want to make sure your money isn’t being sent to a defunct bank that you used in 2019. Even if you paid for something with a gift card, Stadia will refund your gift purchase money.

Can I get a refund from Stadia Pro?

The only thing Stadia doesn’t refund is your money spent on a Pro subscription. The company said that monthly subscriptions are not eligible for the refund rollout, but active subscriptions will remain in effect for free until January next year.

How do I know how much I’m getting?

It’s pretty easy to figure out how much you’re getting in refunds. You need to visit two Google websites with the account you used to make these purchases. Here’s how:

  1. Go to https://store.google.com/orderhistory in any browser;
  2. Total Stadia-related purchases, e.g. B. Controllers.
  3. Go to https://stadia.google.com/settings/payments;
  4. Add up all non-pro online purchases made.

Whatever your total is, it’s going to be a pretty good estimate of how much you’ll be seeing back from Stadia. Again, this is a generous move by the company, and any refund will feel bittersweet.

The company will email all information as soon as it becomes available. So keep an eye out for a message from Google.
