Stallions vs. Breakers live score, updates, highlights from USFL playoff game

The Birmingham Stallions and New Orleans Breakers have been waiting all day for Sunday night – without Carrie Underwood’s cameo, of course.

The first round of the USFL playoffs concludes with a duel under the lights in Birmingham, featuring the top two teams in the league. Depending on how the action unfolds over the next week, this South Division championship fight could also serve as an unofficial USFL title game.

The southern United States is a hotbed of soccer stars, so it’s no surprise that this burgeoning league has its best teams in these regions. As we wait for the Crimson Tide to start their season in a few months, the Stallions have a chance to cement themselves in the hearts of Alabama fans — ironically by slowing the USFL’s recovery.

New Orleans has waves this season, like any day at the beach. Their 4-0 start to the season was later matched by a three-game losing streak and then a three-game winning streak to wrap up the regular season.

But the good news in New Orleans is the recent clashes against Birmingham. The Stallions may be playing in their hometown, but the Breakers are one of two teams figuring out how to defeat them.

Every team has emerged victorious, but looking beneath the surface shows that a Breakers group has the edge in total yards, possession time, and total plays. Week 7 sales aside, New Orleans has the recipe for victory. It starts and ends with protecting football.
