The best grass court tennis tournaments to get tickets for this summer
There is something magical about lawn tennis. The window for this is only briefly opened each year, but the images and memories remain forever.
Wimbledon obviously plays a big role, but the grass season is much more about SW19.
There are a number of great events throughout the turf season, each offering something different to the last.
Wimbledon
There is no doubt that you cannot claim to experience all that the sport has to offer without having attended Wimbledon at least once.
The championships are an icon on the sporting calendar every year and an event of real prestige. You can travel the world and attend any other event you want, but you will never find one like Wimbledon again.
The lush green grass, the unique location, the prestige, the heritage, the history, the raw and unrivaled gravity of the event…
All of these elements make the two weeks of lawn tennis at SW19 a ‘must-visit’ event, unparalleled in its position on many sports fans’ bucket lists.
There are a number of ways to experience Wimbledon and we will always commend the hospitality of Keith Prowse for a truly first class experience, although there is no wrong way to attend Wimbledon. In any case, you will experience a sporting spectacle of a special kind.
Best for: Bucket list
Eastbourne
Devonshire Park is a popular stop leading up to Wimbledon, but you’ll know it by a different name – Eastbourne.
Eastbourne, also known as Rothesay International, is a fabulous favorite thanks to its intimate setting and very reasonable prices. That even makes a day of exceptional hospitality, with guaranteed seats on Center Court, very affordable for those looking to make the most of their visit.
Eastbourne is an event that hosts both ATP and WTA matches and is a high quality tournament for players as they have comparatively few chances to improve their skills on grass courts. That usually guarantees a strong lineup for the draw – as evidenced by both Novak Djokovic and Caroline Wozniacki, who are among the former winners.
However, where Eastbourne really shines is in the intimacy of it all. The seats around the outdoor courts make you feel like you’re part of the action, so you really feel like you’re getting up close and personal with your favorite players.
Best Suited For: Getting close to players
Queen’s Club
There’s a reason Queen’s tickets sell out so quickly every year. In fact, there are quite a lot of them.
Queen’s Club is the highest ranking grass court tournament combined outside of Wimbledon and was the 2022 award for the best ATP 500 tournament on the tennis calendar. Considering the competition there includes Barcelona, Dubai and Washington, among others, it really is an honor.
Taking place in the posh and exclusive area of Kensington in west London, the tournament certainly offers something truly unique in terms of the aesthetics of the setting alone. Players obviously think so too, with Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal among former winners and Novak Djokovic a former finalist.
Like Eastbourne, Queens offers a very intimate environment for spectators that allows for great access to the players. It is especially known for its great hospitality. You can push the boat out and opt for an industry-leading hospitality package from Keith Prowse, but you’re guaranteed great food and drink no matter how you do Queen’s Club, in all honesty.
Best for: Eating and drinking
Majorca
The Mallorca Open is a relative newcomer to the grass tennis season but very welcome. Established in 2016, it was originally a dual ATP and WTA event, but the latter dropped it from their calendar in 2019.
However, it has continued to grow as a tournament and with legend Toni Nadal, uncle and former coach of Rafael Nadal, as tournament director, that should come as no surprise to anyone.
The Mallorca Open takes place the week before Wimbledon so it can be an essential stop for players looking to pack in as much lawn tennis as possible ahead of the Championships. The last two winners, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas show how attractive it is for players and Nick Kyrgios is usually keen to sign up for it too.
Apart from the tennis, the great weather is of course the real catch of the Mallorca Open. If you want to combine top-class tennis with a summer holiday with guaranteed sunshine, Mallorca is hard to resist.
Best Suited For: Summer sun
