The Dior Homme Sport Is Masculine, But Not Over Bearing
The Dior Homme Sport Eau de Toilette is a revised version of the Dior Homme. It’s a masculine scent, but not too masculine. Rob Pattison is the face of the campaign and he is boxing in images by photographer Mikael Jansson. “Capturing Pattinson’s tender manhood,” as the house notes, makes the actor something of a ring hero himself. And why not? He was an ace The Batman. For Dior Beauty, “this fragrance hits like a boxer’s uppercut,” according to the brand.
Pattinson talks about the “art and science” behind making a fragrance and how complicated the process is. Quotes from famous boxers inspire the collection. “If you want a boxer, I’ll get in the ring for you,” Leonard Cohen once said. “Fly like a butterfly, but sting like a bee,” were the words of the late Muhammed Ali. And just like a boxer steps into the ring and delivers the first punch, it’s the Calabrian notes of bergamot, elemi, pink pepper and incense that hit you first. Then the wooden notes bring the uppercut. But it’s the citrus elements that breathe life into the spices.
“François Demachy decided to rethink his creation to give new substance to this manifesto of masculinity. With a hug, he turns the clear composition on its head, coloring it with warm and amber notes, enveloping it in spices and enriching it with even more wood,” the house said in notes.
His three-note chord approach helped all the notes flow into one another. The incense goes well with the aldehyde note. The citrus notes conspire nicely with the wood and amber notes.
While Dior Men’s Creative Director Kim Jones sticks to the fashion side of things, he got involved in this project and designed a pair of boxing gloves. “Exclusive to the new Dior Homme Sport, hey [Kim Jones] was inspired by the legendary world of boxing to create an exceptional pair of gloves,” notes the house. Crafted from black and gray leather and embossed with the Dior logo just below the top of the hands, Jones has entered a new arena sportswear design.
The Dior Homme Sport is available in three sizes and retails for $175 in the 6.8 ounce bottle, $130 in the 4.25 ounce bottle and $105 in the 2.5 ounce bottle.
