Turkey was rocked by two major earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş on Monday February 6th.
The first earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 in Pazarcık occurred at around 04:17. After this 7.7 magnitude earthquake, another earthquake occurred at 1:24 p.m. The magnitude of the earthquake, the epicenter of which was in Elbistan District, was given as 7.6.
According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) website, the earthquake struck at a depth of 7 kilometers.
The earthquake called the disaster of the century; It caused great destruction in Kahramanmaraş, Kilis, Diyarbakır, Adana, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Adıyaman, Malatya and Hatay.
On the 5th day of the earthquake, the total death toll in 10 provinces rose to 18,342. The number of injured was given as 74,242 and the number of buildings destroyed as 6,444.
On the other hand, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said that 120 police officers and over 32 gendarmerie officers have died in the earthquake so far.
No official statement has yet been made about the number of people trapped under the rubble during the earthquake.
More than 1,400 aftershocks occurred in the region after the earthquakes.
Efforts to rescue citizens trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings continue at full speed.
29,622 search and rescue personnel from AFAD, PAK, JAK, JÖAK, DİSAK, Coast Guard, DAK, Fire Brigade, Rescue, MEB, NGOs and international teams are working in the region. The number of search and rescue personnel from other countries is 6,000 479.
MORE THAN 120 THOUSAND EMPLOYEES
With the number of field staff assigned by AFAD, Police, Gendarmerie, MSB, UMKE, ambulance teams, volunteers, local security and local support teams, the number of staff serving in the area reached 120,344.
For the delivery of personnel and material to the region, an airlift was set up with a total of 160 aircraft attached to the Air Force, the Land Forces, the Coast Guard and the General Command of the Gendarmerie.
Twenty-two ships, 20 from Naval Forces Command and 2 from Coast Guard Command, were assigned to the region for personnel, material transport and evacuation.
10,973 tents and 1 million,507,494 blankets severely affected by the earthquake were sent by AFAD, the Department of Family and Social Services and the Red Crescent. The installation of 97,000 973 family living tents has also been completed.
CALL EDUCATION IN TURKEY UNTIL 20 FEBRUARY
Due to the earthquake that wreaked havoc in 10 provinces, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer announced that classes across the country would be suspended until February 20.
Minister Özer: “Due to the earthquake disaster we experienced, we decided to extend our educational break in Turkey until February 20.”
On the other hand, Minister Özer also announced in the NTV live broadcast that there would be no compulsory school attendance in the earthquake area.
OPENING OF UNIVERSITIES TEMPORARILY DELAYED
The University Council (YÖK) announced that the opening of universities after the earthquake was suspended pending a second announcement.

State of emergency declared in 10 provinces
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared a state of emergency (OHAL) after the earthquake in Kahramanmaraş, Kilis, Diyarbakır, Adana, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Adıyaman, Malatya and Hatay. The state of emergency decision announced by Erdoğan and published in the Official Gazette was adopted in the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

Mehmet Kasapoğlu, Minister of Youth and Sports, shared the emergency shelters serving 24/7 in earthquake zones. Citizens can meet their food and drink needs for free at lodging points in 10 provinces.
RELEASE POINTS FROM EARTHQUAKE ZONES
On the other hand, evacuations from earthquake zones continue. Citizens from the provinces affected by the earthquake will be directed to the provinces they wish to go to by reaching the evacuation points announced by the Directorate of Communications.
