The numbers highlighting Australia’s cricketing dominance
After another emphatic tournament victory for Australia’s women, we go through some of the unrivaled facts and figures that highlight the team’s unrivaled quality in cricket.
6 – Women’s T20 World Championships titles won by Australia
With half a dozen wins across eight editions of the tournament, Australia’s win over South Africa at Newlands also completes a three-goal tournament (2018, 2020, 2023).
Beth Mooney had the highest score of 74* as the world’s top-ranked team scored 156/6 at Newlands, and a brilliant bowling show saw South Africa choke in their pursuit, with the Proteas falling 20 runs short of their target.
5 – ICC title won by Meg Lanning as captain
Lanning has now won more ICC trophies than any other captain, passing compatriot Ricky Ponting, who skippered two Cricket World Cups and two Champions trophies from 2003-2009.
The 30-year-old captained her first Cricket World Cup victory in New Zealand last year, with her win at Newlands accompanying the three T20 World Cup trophies from 2014 to 2020.
4 – Consecutive fifties scored by Beth Mooney in ICC and Commonwealth Games Finals

At 74* in Newlands on Sunday, Mooney’s 61 was Australia’s best result in her Commonwealth Games Gold Medal match against India and her influence was felt in Australia’s Cricket World Cup final win over England, where she scored 62 from 47.
Mooney also has consecutive fifties in the T20 World Cup finals after going unbeaten against India at 78 three years ago.
3 – Titles held simultaneously (T20 World Cup, Cricket World Cup, Commonwealth Games gold medal)
Australia held the three titles simultaneously after winning the final of the first Commonwealth Games, although victory in Cape Town meant Australia can boast of having won all three titles in the space of 12 months.
The team’s most recent victories in the three competitions are expressly unbeaten.
13/20 – Fraction of global tournaments won by Australia’s women
Victory at the 2024 edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh would mean Australia has won two thirds of the possible trophies in Cricket World Cup and T20 World Cup events.

In contrast to Dottin’s efforts of 2018, Gardner’s exploits resulted in a T20 World Cup title in 2023.
