The U17 and U19 Nationals in the starting blocks!

Sporting’s U16 and U18 players, who were regional champions in their respective categories last year, enabled Bastia Academy to rediscover youth football’s elite. An important milestone in the implementation of the association’s training policy!

Deprived of national championships since the 2019-2020 season, Sporting Club de Bastia has taken the time it needed to solidly lay the foundations of its training following the economic tragedy of 2017. With a reserve team in R1 and squads of youngsters in U17 and U19 national team, the SCB academy now has serious arguments to regain its aura before the summer of 2017. If the sporting goal will be obvious to stay for the 17 and 19, the overall goal will be much more important. “We are a training club and we have always been the locomotive of training in Corsica.

We had to digest these five years, but we knew how to work perfectly to find our place in the national elite, but not only. The club has had excellent performances in all categories of 11-a-side football over the past season and we have sent a strong signal to our training,” warns the President of the Academy, Marc-Antoine Luca. Accurate training is the philosophy that Frédéric Zago, director of the academy and coach of the U17s, wants to convey to all his troops. “We are here to allow players to progress, level up and prepare for professionalism. It is an exciting task that we will undertake, while not forgetting to pass on all the values that define Sporting. Our youth teams must reflect the history of the club and be part of the first team project.” Thus, by signing a professional internship contract for U19 players, Sporting Club de Bastia has already sent a strong message to its young squad by offering them the opportunity , at certain times to bridge the gap between the academy and the first team .

Coming back to the sporting plan, the objective of this off-season was to rely on a very strong Corsican framework in both categories and make some changes in certain sectors. This means that seven new players have joined the Under-17s, including a young midfielder from PSG. The same applies to the U19s, where seven new players have also joined, including two goalkeepers from Italy and Ukraine. U19s, who will be first on deck from August 21 with a derby at neighboring AC Ajaccio. “We’ll get to the bottom of it right away,” said U19 coach Cyril Jeunechamp. It’s a championship that promises to be very tough with the best reserves in France. From Monaco to Marseille via Nice or even Saint-Etienne, the duels will be at a very high level. The aim will be to assess ourselves and, above all, to progress against these big cars and see the difference to our direct opponents.”

And to achieve this, the Sporting Club de Bastia Academy has decided to put the odds on its side by professionalizing the U17 and U19 technical staff as much as possible. “We have to offer our young people the best conditions,” emphasizes Marc-Antoine Luca. For example, Sébastien Lombard, a former professional first-team goalkeeper, will coach our U17 and U19 goalkeepers throughout the season but also before matches. Organizationally, we have taken a step forward. It is now up to us to enable our young people to do the same”!
