Three-sport Warren enjoys it all

LYNN – It’s unusual for a student to compete in three sports — let alone all four years of high school. That happens to be the case for Lynn Classical senior Brady Warren, who was part of the Rams’ golf, basketball and baseball programs.

Warren is in the middle of his senior season on the baseball team, and head coach Mike Zukowski is happy to have Warren leading the team again.

“Brady is just a great kid and all the underclassmen on the team look up to him,” Zukowski said. “Brady is an excellent student athlete and he’s the kind of person you want to represent your school. So it’s safe to say I’ve been fortunate to have Brady in a classic uniform for the past four seasons.”

Zukowski has many memories of Warren, but brought up a specific one that made him smile.

“Brady works really hard in the cages and because of all his hard work, he’s become a very good hitter,” Zukowski said. “Brady always talked about wanting to hit a home run because he didn’t do it in his career until we played Swampscott this year. When Brady rocketed against Swampscott, I saw him smile around third base, and after he touched home plate, he came up to me and said, “I finally made it coach,” and we caught both just started to laugh. It was just a great moment that I will never forget.”

Despite Warren’s success at the Diamond, his golf game has really excelled – even to the point that he signed on to Saint Anselm’s this fall to play the sport and continue his finance studies.

It’s safe to say – classic golf coach Jack Morrison isn’t surprised.

“Brady embodies the perfect meaning of what a student-athlete should be,” said Morrison. “Brady is great in the classroom but also a fabulous athlete and now a hell of a golfer. I was lucky enough to have a front row seat as Brady’s game took it to the next level.”

Morrison also brought up an early memory of Warren — aka a portent of the future.

“I started coaching Brady in eighth grade,” Morrison said. “When I first got the chance to see Brady’s swing, his swing was almost perfect and didn’t need to tweak anything on it, which is rare.”

Once Morrison got going, he couldn’t stop gushing about Warren.

“Brady is a two-time Greater Boston League MVP,” said Morrison. “Brady is also a two-time GBL All-Star and Champion, so he’s accomplished a lot during his time on the team.”

Morrison also brought up a more recent memory of Warren.

“This year I got tickets to the US Open and was able to bring the whole team to this great event,” said Morrison. “During the Open, Brady took this opportunity to not just enjoy the event as a fan, but to really focus on what the pros were doing and how he could use that to improve his game. The rest of the team took note of this and, like Brady, focused on the result.”

“That’s exactly the kind of leader that Brady is, which is particularly evident,” Morrison said. “A lot of the other players are trying to emulate Brady but I have to tell them to take it slow because Brady’s game is up to par now.”

Even so, golf wasn’t always his first choice.

“I grew up watching baseball, it was really the sport I loved most as a kid,” Warren said.

Then golf became his favorite sport, largely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I really started playing golf in high school and when Covid hit it was the only sport I could play during that time,” Warren said. “As my golf game grew, so did my love of the sport and my skill. It was really at that time that I fell in love with golf.”

When asked what his biggest snack from high school sports was, he pointed to his fellow Rams.

“Playing three sports in high school isn’t easy,” Warren said. “You go to school, practice or play a game, then go home, do your homework, and then have to repeat that routine every day. It was tough, but it was worth it to be able to spend so much time with my friends every day and have so much fun.”
