Tottenham vs AC Milan prediction, odds, betting tips and best bets for Champions League second leg

Both Tottenham and AC Milan know their European lives are at stake as they play the second leg of the Champions League round of 16.

Despite Milan’s 1-0 lead after the first leg in Italy, both teams have scored or missed in all competitions in recent months, meaning their life in the Champions League could well become the highlight of the season for their respective fan bases.

Every team has already been eliminated from domestic cup competition, meaning the loser of that encounter has just one league game left for the remainder of the season. Staying afloat in Europe therefore serves as a palate cleanser for an otherwise blotchy domestic campaign.

With the two wildly volatile teams clashing in the Champions League, The sports news a very difficult to predict game collapses.

Tottenham vs AC Milan Odds

Tottenham are odd-odd favorites at home to beat their Italian opponents at home, but thanks to AC Milan’s slight advantage from the first leg, the visitors are still strong favorites to reach the last 16.

There are also questions about whether either side can find the back of the net, but odds makers have tipped slightly to a positive answer to that probe.

Tottenham vs AC Milan Team News

Spurs are missing long-term absentees Rodrigo Bentancur, Hugo Lloris, Yves BissoumaAnd Ryan Sessegnon, but are otherwise going into this home game quite healthy. Acting head coach Cristian Stellini has continued to take charge of training but Antonio Conte is reportedly returning to the sidelines for this game.

AC Milan boast a squad in near-full health, with just Brahim Diaz missing after suffering a knee injury against Atalanta in late February. Otherwise, Stefano Pioli has his entire squad to choose from Charles de Ketelaere was given another chance to impress in place of the in-form Diaz. Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned from a cruciate ligament rupture at the end of February and has been off the bench twice as a goalkeeper Mike Maignan has regained his regular role in the last two games after suffering an injury on international duty in September.

Tottenham vs AC Milan key stats

  • The first-leg win was AC Milan’s first win over Tottenham in their five-game history. They met twice in the 1971/72 UEFA Cup and again in two other games in the 2010/11 Champions League. On both occasions, Tottenham won the first leg by a single goal and the two sides drew in the second leg.
  • This clash boasts the two opponents’ second-highest combined domestic table positions (4th + 5th = 9) of any Champions League round of 16 match, behind only that of Chelsea-Borussia Dortmund, thanks to Chelsea’s 10th place in the Premier League.
  • Rafael Leao has dribbled 44 times in Serie A this season, the most of any player in Serie A, and won take-ons with a relatively inefficient clip of 46 percent. Leao’s 67 dribbles in all competitions ranks fifth among all players in Europe’s Big Five leagues, yet he has not scored in any competition since January 14, a streak of seven straight games without a goal.

Tottenham vs AC Milan Prediction

  • Moneyline Lean: Draw (+270)
  • Outcome Prediction: Tottenham 0-0 AC Milan
  • Who’s Going Forward: AC Milan

It’s hard to find two more volatile teams in the European elite this season, making this match exceptionally difficult to bet on.

Tottenham are the better attacking team in terms of talent, but they are also more vulnerable defensively given their recent form and have had some real stinkers in the last third lately. Milan, on the other hand, have recently been forced to claim victories with few goals in play as they struggle to create good chances.

Milan should be comfortable taking pressure and hitting Tottenham on the break and they would have come out on top in this away game if it weren’t for their terrible form on the road. Milan have only won two away games since the beginning of 2023, against newly promoted Monza and relegation-threatened Salernitana. They drew in Lecce in mid-January, were thrashed away by Lazio and fell to the ailing Fiorentina last weekend. Even as an “away” team in their own stadium, AC Milan had to admit defeat to rivals Inter in the most recent San Siro derby.

That has all the makings of a 0-0 draw and even if the teams find the back of the net it’s too difficult to pick a winner so we’ll stick with a draw.

Tottenham vs AC Milan: Best bet

  • Choose: Goalless first half (+185)
  • Opportunities: ODDS (BetMGM)

Even if the game doesn’t end 0-0, the first half could be an exchange of blows. Spurs will know they only need a goal to get back in the game and can wait at home, while AC Milan are good at killing time with possession, even if they don’t create much themselves.

Spurs have reached half-time with a goalless run in four straight games and AC Milan will be only too happy to concede as they were even at half-time with Fiorentina last weekend before the second half gave way to the game’s three goals .

Tottenham vs AC Milan Prop Bet

  • Choose: Both teams score – NO
  • Opportunities: -110 (BetMGM)

It’s hard to predict which team will win this second leg, but it’s not hard to understand why both teams are unlikely to score. I am not completely sure which team scored and kept a clean sheet, but goals are very important here.

Both sides have struggled mightily on all fronts this season to create chances and their attacking types have been up against anyone and everyone. Spurs have been ruled out in two consecutive games, against Wolves in the Premier League and against lower-tier Sheffield United in the FA Cup. Meanwhile, AC Milan have scored multiple goals in just two of their last nine games and an injury to Brahim Diaz means the stuttering Charles de Ketelaere has returned to the starting XI.

However, both teams look improved defensively. Milan kept four clean sheets in a row before their last defeat by Fiorentina and in the four games in which they scored for fun until January (2-2 draw vs Lecce, 0-3 loss vs Inter, 0-4 Loss to Lazio, 5-2 loss to Sassuolo) seems to be a thing of the past.

Spurs also looked better at the back, not conceding more than 1.41 xG in a league game since losing 4-2 to Manchester City in January. It’s hard to really “trust” Cristian Romero or Clement Lenglet, but they’re getting the job done for now.
