Travis Barker makes ‘hard decision’ to get finger surgery after latest injury
Hopefully Travis Barker should return to drums soon.
The 47-year-old musician shared photos on Instagram on Friday March 3, thanking people for their thoughts and revealing the reason for his recent ligament tear surgery.
“It was a tough decision, but ultimately I couldn’t continue playing drums without her. It was inevitable that my finger would have dislocated again without surgical fixation of the torn ligament,” he wrote.
“So thankful for Dr. Shin and that my surgery was a success so I can keep doing what I love and see you guys on tour soon,” Barker continued, adding a trigger warning to the second photo.
The Blink 182 drummer posted a photo of him lying in bed examining his heavily bandaged hand. However, the other image was more descriptive and showed a close-up of his fingertips with surgical markings.
On his Instagram story, Barker shared several photos, two of which showed before and after shots of the torn ligament on the inside of his cut finger.
Earlier this week, Barker posted a carousel of images with the caption “Surgery tomorrow” and added the fingers crossed emoji.
In the first video, someone who looks like a medical worker is seen adjusting his finger and saying, “Are you feeling pain?” to which he replied, “I mean yeah, it feels painful.”
Most of the following shots showed his left ring finger, which was extremely swollen. One picture was a selfie of him with his hand over his mouth and his finger in a clamp.
On Wednesday, February 8, the artist announced his injury in a tweet, writing that he was playing drums during a rehearsal the day before and “smashed my finger so hard I dislocated it and tore the ligaments.”
Due to the drummer’s injury, lead singer Tom DeLonge announced on Instagram that Blink-182 had to postpone his South American tour and apologized to fans for the situation.
“This was something we’ve wanted to do for so long, and we worked so hard, and we just had one of these crazy accidents that nobody saw coming,” DeLonge said in the video.
DeLonge, 47, said they needed to get “healthy” and “strong” before they could continue performing.
“It’s just so sad,” he continued. “Those were the biggest shows we’ve ever played. These are some of the most important places in the world for a band. It’s like the pinnacle of our career coming down and playing for you guys.”
However, the band will be back in 2024 for Lollapalooza Argentina and for Estéreo Picnic Festival in Colombia, among other performances.
