In 2022, Carlo Ancelotti’s team will meet German club Eintracht Frankfurt and aim to set a tournament record with another title.
How many times have Real Madrid won the UEFA Super Cup?
En route to the 2022 Super Cup, Real Madrid have previously won the competition four times in 2002, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
They are currently one title behind Supercup record Barcelona and AC Milan, who have triumphed five times each.
Los Blancos have also lost three Super Cup finals to date and were defeated by Atletico Madrid in their last appearance in 2018.

Super Cup 2002
On 30 August 2002 in Monaco, Real Madrid won the UEFA Super Cup for the first time, adding a title they had previously eluded twice.
Los Blancos, winners of the 2001-2002 Champions League, defeated Dutch club Feyenoord 3-1.
Patrick Paauwe’s early own goal and goals from Roberto Carlos and Guti were decisive.

Super Cup 2014
Cardiff City Stadium in Wales hosted the 2014 Super Cup where Real Madrid beat Sevilla 2-0 thanks to a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ancelotti was coach that day and it was his third Supercup win overall, having won it twice before with AC Milan.
Super Cup 2016
Just two years later, the final was repeated when Real Madrid faced Sevilla at Norway’s Lerkendal Stadium.
Zinedine Zidane won the arm wrestling match against Jorge Sampaoli in a match decided in overtime.
Marco Asensio put Real Madrid ahead before Franco Vázquez and Yevhen Konoplyanka turned the game in Sevilla’s favour.
Sergio Ramos equalized for Real in added time and then, in the final minutes of extra time, Dani Carvajal scored the goal that gave the club their third Supercup title.

Super Cup 2017
Real Madrid managed to lift the trophy for the second time in a row.
They defeated Manchester United 2-1 at the Filip II Arena in Macedonia. Casemiro and Isco put Zidane’s team ahead while Romelu Lukaku clawed one back for Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils.
Has Eintracht Frankfurt ever won the UEFA Super Cup?
After winning the Europa League last season, Eintracht Frankfurt is making its debut in the UEFA Super Cup.
Bayern Munich is the only German club to have won the competition, twice in 2013 and 2020.
German contenders Hamburger SV, Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund also featured in the UEFA Super Cup but failed to secure the title.
