- Senior PSG stars are reportedly unhappy with the club’s transfer deal
- There is evidence that players believe the team has been weakened
- Questions were raised about the decision to bring in certain players
Paris Saint-Germain players have reportedly questioned the club’s summer transfer deal, with some believing the recent deals have weakened the side.
PSG were beaten 1-0 at home by Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16 first leg on Tuesday, putting their tournament hopes on the brink ahead of their trip to Germany next week.
Now it is reported that senior players of the Ligue 1 leaders are confused by PSG’s deal in the transfer market and believe certain players shouldn’t have left, according to L’Equipe.
PSG’s dressing room has been under scrutiny throughout the season, with rumors of unrest among his teammate and Brazilian superstar Neymar recently revealing he had fallen out with sporting director Luis Campos.
The French newspaper revealed that the additions of Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz and Carlos Soler confused some players who believed summer departures Leandro Paredes, Idrissa Gueye or Julian Draxler would be better suited to the team.
The performances of newcomers have raised doubts within the squad about the club’s transfer strategy since Christophe Galtier replaced Mauricio Pochettino as manager.
Confusion is also being reported over the decision to make Hugo Ekitike’s summer move to the Parisians permanent amid the 20-year-old attacking talent’s questionable form.
Ekitike has scored just three goals in 16 league games and some in the dressing room appear to think academy product Arnaud Kalimuendo was a more suitable option before being allowed to join Rennes.
There are also hints of frustration at club director Campos and his failure to bring in a new star defender during the pre-season transfer window.
The man in charge of transfers has drawn criticism from both Neymar and Marquinhos in recent weeks as signs of a split within the club have become increasingly apparent.
Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar is set to leave Italy for France at the end of the season, but PSG have to be cautious about their spending given the financial fair play restrictions imposed on them.
PSG were fined £8.9million in September for breaching UEFA financial rules over overspending in the summer of 21/22 when Lionel Messi arrived at Parc des Princes.
The club must meet certain financial targets agreed with UEFA over the next three to four years or face further and more severe sanctions.
